Advice please - Driving shoes/Penny Loafers and summer shoes

I just bought a pair of Chuck Taylor slip ons for summer. Within 2 minutes I hated how they felt on my feet and knew they would be going back. (Then I remembered I had a pair of chucks as a kid and didn't like them then either) They will be returned and I am leaning towards a pair of driving shoes or penny loafers to wear with chinos and shorts. If anybody knows of some good canvas shoes for a guy who can't wear chucks let me know ( I think it's the total lack of arch support I don't like)

Boat shoes might be a possibility too. I had a pair of Sperry Topsiders Goldcup that did not hold up well for me. They were tan colored and made from deerskin I think. After a couple years they were brittle and uncomfortable. Maybe I needed to maintain them somehow?

Anyway here are some shoes I have been looking at. I am guessing for the price they are all glued/crap construction.

    Florsheim University Penny $50

RW by Robert Wayne Cornell $50

    Cole Haan Howland Penny $105

    Thanks

If I had to pick one out of that mix, I'd go with the cole haan loafer. I think they would be the easiest to pull off with shorts.

I really like those Robert Wayne loafers, especially for $50. They are showing on the website as $95, tell me I am missing something?

As far as canvas shoes go (of you're still looking), I suggest you check out Pro-KEDS. I bought the 69er lo last summer and wore them for a week at Disney and have no complaints. I bought them because I wanted a canvas show without a rubber toe cap. They have far more arch support than chucks (plus, they have a removable insole if you want to change them out, which chucks do not). I wanted the ripstop grey version which I found on eBay for $30 shipped. I think they are around $45 from zappos/dsw.

Edit: Apparently zappos doesn't have them any more. Here's a link, just for a visual.

I am also contemplating drivers for the summer, I really like the polo ribbon drivers from last year. If they have them again, I will likely pick them up. Of the pics you posted, I too like the Cole Haan best.

    Also interested.

Be forewarned, those Robert Wayne shoes run AT LEAST a size big, maybe even a size and a half big. I have the tassel version and i usually wear a 10.5 and I think I ended up with a 9.5.

If you're going for a loafer, you may as well spend an extra $10 and go with Bass Weejuns. Will last a LOT longer and be much more comfortable.

That being said, I picked up a pair of light grey suede (with white soles) loafers from Zara last year and they have been my go to warm weather/travel shoe.

I'm probably in the minority, but i think leather loafers or driving shoes like the ones in the first post look very odd with shorts.

I have the tassel version, as I mentioned. They aren't great quality but not bad, I only wear mine occasionally so I can't speak to long term quality. I think $50 is probably the right price. I wouldn't pay $99 for em. I got mine at Off 5th for about $40.
