The Wolverine 1000 Mile Limited Edition Shell Cordovan 744 Boot is at epaulet in size 10D for $550, usually $760. Sooooooo tempted but I'm a standard 10D and these run a half size big. Would fit a 10.5D and I don't know that I've ever seen these on sale, especially in a normal size. Final sale though.

F'ing awesome! I'm a 10D-E so I'm guessing they won't fit, but I might have to go try 'em on. I've sort of been lusting after some shell boots for a while now. I have to go into the city on Monday so if they are still around I'll try 'em then and let you know how they fit.

Yeah, these are gorgeous. Thanks for offering the fit review, I look forward to it. I'm a 10D but more on the narrow side and shorter...I size down to 9.5 in almost all boots and even some shoes.

EDIT: I just found this SF post for 10D seconds for $475: http://www.styleforum.net/t/334824/w...ovan-boots-10d
He also has 9.5Ds here: http://www.styleforum.net/t/334817/w...van-boots-9-5d

I don't know if these are Loake seconds/lower-lines but there's nothing in the description to indicate as such other than it was found under "Web Exclusives":

Edit: well it appears Loake themselves won't ship outside of the UK, but for anybody living over there, could be worth a look?

I didn't get in to the city in time before the Wolverine shell boots were gone. Oh well.

Here are a whole bunch of cheap deals on Church's suede, all for 145 Euros + shipping to US. Shipping is kinda pricey but still you're looking at $240 shipped to US.

I'm not listing each but sizes are obviously limited.

Interesting. The Capital last is usually only used in their 1880 line -- 1880 is calf leather, made in England and this model is called "Strand" -- but this shoe doesn't seem to be in their 1880 line. Could be CG leather, and possibly not made in England.

FWIW, I find the Capital last to be very nice, with a soft chiseled toe.

Fred, curious about your thoughts on these beauties. I've been considering diving into the world of G+G, but it's risky having not tried one on and it being final sale. Then again, it's a 10D for 60% off.

Wow! G&G is obviously an amazing manufacturer and I love that chisel-toe last. That's a great price to step up to G&G which admittedly I would love to try. My only hesitation would be this: I found that I like wholecuts in concept a lot more than I do in practice. With the absence of any design details to draw the eye, the eye is drawn to the creases, nicks, flaws, etc that the shoe picks up during its lifespan. The cap of a cap toe, for example, is such a strong design element that it draws the eye and you don't notice the other stuff. I have a pair of AE Westgates that I was really excited to get initially that I don't find myself wearing very often now. That's a really beautiful shoe though and the added interest of the last shape and the coloring at the toe might be enough to overcome other concerns. I think wholecuts really need to have the right last to be successful and that G&G is a much more interesting last than the AE 8 last that the Westgate is on.

It's also my size so buy it before I'm tempted
    .

This amazing G&G monk is also in stock in a 10.5, was $1,125 now $449:
