    Can A Tailor Fix This?

Picked up this Herringbone SC from the gap outlet for $35. Can a tailor fix the sides around the waist or will it be a waisted effort?

The upper arm is a little snug but besides that it fits in all the places it needs to without major tailoring. I do realize it isn't tapered at all in the waist. This is how it fits OTR. Right now it looks very boxy. Should I return it or invest to make this my new favorite SC for the the winter season?

And what should I ask for at the tailor?

I like it. Your tailor should be able to bring the waist in a bit. It looks a tad short to me though, from my understanding you should be able to cup the end of the coat if you curl your fingers up.

The blazer should end where your fingers curl. It's far too short for my taste. The rest is easily tailored.

I like it as well. The jacket length is about right for the current short jacket trend. I would just ask the tailor to bring the waist in as much as he is comfortable with. I notice you are 42 chest and 31 waist as per your sig. The tailor may not be able to bring it in as much you would like but I am sure he can drastically improve it.

The shorter length does not bother me at all because this will be a strictly casual jacket. Thanks for all the input.

Not to cut anything short, but anything that can be said has already been said.
To really know for sure, though, take it to the tailor and get their opinion. They're the professionals.

I'm confident your tailor will be able to take in the sides. If they can't, you should look for another tailor. Just my $.02.

Agreed on the above re. taking in the sides being totally doable. Also, put me down as not thinking the length of this jacket looks bad. Sometimes a shorter jacket looks weird to me, sometimes not. This is a "not."
