    Thoughts on v-neck sweaters

I am looking for some v-necks as layering solutions(merino wool would be best), ones which do not have a low dip.

My only other v-neck is the LEC fine gauge v-neck sweater(S) as seen here - http://canvas.landsend.com/pp/mens-f...203157_-1.html but it is a little loose around the waist. I have a 39" chest and usually wear 36S OTR.

    Thoughts?

How low do you consider "low"? I've got a number of v-necks with varying depths, and it's been my experience that I can't wear a tie with any that go high because the sweater will start to ride up over the shirt collar once you've put the tie on. For that reason, I advocate some reasonable depth. If you don't intend to wear ties with them, it's moot and you can go as high as you want.

I'm trying to find a black v-neck in tall slim sizes, so far only Jcrew has it and their not on sale.

Have you tried GAP or BR vnecks? Although I can't find a size to fit me well the material is pretty nice on them and on the merino v-necks it doesn't dip too low.. the silk BR sweater does dip very low however.

Anything that dips beyond the first non-collar button is low territory for me. I don't ever wear ties with my sweaters so the higher up, the better.
