I had my birthday recently and since I haven't bought a watch in a while (by my standards) I decided to indulge in something cheap and fun. Picked up the Timex pilot-style chronograph, featured a few times on the main site, from my local Target store. I've always been a fan of Timex for cheap watches, but for ~$50 this watch is a particularly good value for the money - just super cool-looking and functional. This would make a great watch for travelers, since you can set the hour hand independent of the minute hand. I wasn't aesthetically sold on the white hands against the black and khaki dial, but in practice they make the watch very readable despite the busy dial design. It's also really easy to accurately read the chronograph. Seems like that's a rare thing to find in an inexpensive chronograph, where the chronograph minute hand usually moves incrementally in a too-small minute subdial.

The watch wears too chunky and oversized on my small wrist to be an everyday watch. But I like it as a fun casual beater. The black case, dark brown suede strap, and khaki accents go nicely with my fall/winter casual wardrobe. Here's a pic stolen from the interwebs:

Got a referral bonus for helping hiring someone at my current job and then subsequently got a new job offer for more $$. I've been eyeing a nice watch for awhile (have a few movados, fossil, citizen etc.). I went in dead set on a Tag and then found this. Had to get it ... I'm in love and I have a watch problem

I just pulled the trigger on a pair of Wolverine 1000 Mile boots in Cordovan (color). I'm beyond excited to get them! I had the chance to try a pair on recently and that sold me. After watching these from afar for over a year I'm rewarding myself for working my butt off. As soon as they arrive they're off to the cobbler for some rubber half soles. Then I'll give them an LP treatment and might not take them off to go to bed (j/k).

During the recent AE 2nd's sale I picked up a pair of Brooks Brothers loafers. I actually really like the padded insole, and the rubber outsole is nice since I plan to use these as a low-maintenance alternative to my black park avenues. They are obviously 2nd's, as the stitching on the outside of the moc toe on the right shoe protrudes quite a bit. A deal breaker for most, but I'm a teacher which means the bar is extremely low when it comes to style. With an ounce of effort, I can out-dress 99% of my co-workers on any given day...so for $99, I have no complaints.
I also bought a pair of Suede Bushacres on Amazon for $59 recently. I already have desert boots in beeswax, and these will be a nice alternative to wear with dark denim or navy chinos.

And the best part: I just placed my order for a Saddleback Front Pocket Briefcase in Dark Coffee Brown. I recently moved from Oklahoma to Texas and got a huuuuge raise to go along with the new job. (For real though, it's kind of obscene how much more you can make for doing the same job just 3 hours south in a different state, but thats a conversation for a different time...) First paycheck came today and I decided to treat myself.

And now we play the waiting game...
