How do you buy anything from Spier and McKay?

They are constantly sold out of staple suit colors in 44s (as well as almost every other size). What is the secret to this system?

Early when they announce new items or restocks. By the time sales come around they are usually clearing out stock for new merchandise.

Pretty sure the only tactic that works reliably is to be constantly F5'ing their New Arrivals page (or get in during pre-order).

If you keep an eye on their StyleForum thread you can sometimes get advance notice re: when products are launching/being re-stocked. But yeah otherwise it comes down to checking back a lot and moving quickly when items go live.

One positive thing I'll say about the stock issues that S&M faces on a regular basis is that it really makes me evaluate how much I want or need something. I've already got my staples taken care of, so mostly my purchases from them fall squarely in the "want" category. That said, I am convinced enough of the value of their product that I'm willing to stick it out until my size comes back in.

ALSO... I subscribe to their emails. They're pretty good at sending emails to their database when they've restocked.

Thanks to their emails, I learned that they now carry full canvas suits. That's a topic for a whole other thread. In fact, I'm going to start one right now.

Based on their SF thread, 44L sells out instantly so I assume other 44 suits also sell out quickly. Similar to Vicious49, I am a 40 and never have an issue but I think they buy more 40s than 44s.

They stock very little in 44s; most suits go up to 42s only. Your only choice is MTO, which is coming online at not too great a premium from RTW.

I’ve only been able to buy something in my size once, and it was a pair of their suede double monk straps. The moment I got them out of the box, I could tell that it was some of the worst suede I’ve ever seen, and I returned them without trying them on.
