Lightbulb In need of a new fall jacket suggestion

    Hello friends,

I'm hoping to find a new light fall/spring jacket which I can layer underneath. Ideally looking for something water-resistant, since I live in rainy Seattle. Waxed Cotton has it's obvious appeal.

I liked the Barbour Ashby, but the sleeves were a bit too long. Looking for something that isn't super casual, but not super formal. Any suggestions?

Try the filson cover cloth. Similar to the Barbour and isn’t crazy long on me and I am 5’8”

I think you could tailor the Ashby to fit your arms. The reason I would go with Barbour is because when it comes time to rewaxing, I would rather drop my coat off at Orvis and have them do it vs. trying to do it on my own.

Filson does have a store in Seattle which I am jealous of.

I have the Ashby and I've got the sleeves cuffed to show a little bit of the corduroy underside. Cheaper than tailoring and looks like it's supposed to be that way.

You probably had this earlier jacket that almost looks the same: https://bananarepublic.gap.com/brows....do?pid=228848 "Water-Repellent Four Pocket Jacket"

The old one was too long on me, the new one is a bit shorter.

Both look great, but I greatly prefer the faux-waxed one--the field jacket has a more modern tech look. Unfortunately, like most BR shirts and outwear, they're a bit too tight in the chest and shoulders for me (the field jacket less so because it has an action back). If the fit works for you, I think you'd be very happy with either.
