AE has a number of boots on clearance right now for under $200 that have rubber or lugged soles and the "storm welt".

    For example, these:

Seeing this has me wondering what brands and style everyone wouldsuggest.

Searching the threads here is what I am seeing :

-Redwing - beckman, iron ranger, 6” Moc toe,
    -Chippewa - 6” Service
    -Wolverine - 1000
    -Thursday - President
    -Thorogood -
-Allen Edmonds - Higgins Mill, Dalton,Sullivan, Alpine
    -Johnston Murphy -

I picked up some AE Stirling boots as factory seconds that I am very happy with. Dressy oxford uppers with fair-sized, but not too big, lugged soles.

Also recently picked up some Carlos Santos boots with bigger lugs, but better looking in my opinion. And a bargain from Herring right now at $324 (yes, out of the OP's price range):

And I think it was @evanparker who recently discovered this small made in USA startup. The owner was very prompt answering my email:

You won't find many shoes for sale with wild Kudu antelope leather. I don't think.
