Go get your measurements taken at a reputable place (I suggest Brooks Brothers or Dillards). Then bring the jacket back to the rental and get something more along the lines of your measurements. A rental is never going to look great though (edit - a rental will always look pretty bad).

The issue is that this is the smallest size the rental place has available. They claim it's a 34s, which is bizarre, because I'm a 36s in most brands and this thing is huge on me. Regardless, I don't think I have any options here. Luckily it's summer, so I can take the jacket off as soon as the ceremony's over. Thanks guys.

I was pretty much in a same boat 3 years ago and I also wear 36S. The rental had 1 (ONE) 36S that was pretty abused and dirty (there were actual torn holes on the sleeves and lapels.
I sucked it up and wore the jacket through the ceremony and pics. Immediately after, I changed it out for my own suit - jacket and pants. And I didn't use the rental shirt at all - the brown ring on the collar was nothing short of nauseating.

Stand in the back for the photos and then take the jacket off for the party. Nobody dances in their jacket anyway.

Stand with your hands behind your back to disguise divots in folding fabric?
