    Chukka Questions

    Hey all,

Getting a new wardrobe together for college this fall and came across this article from a ways back:
    https://dappered.com/2017/05/chinos-...king-the-case/

I like chukka's a lot. I live in a warmer climate and they're super comfortable footwear-- however, I've had trouble finding decent ones (the Clark's in my area doesn't have a very good selection, unfortunately, and they're so popular on Amazon that most of the brown ones are sold out.)

My question is... at the top of the article, what kind of chukkas are these?? They appear to be 3-eyelet and look very similar to Clark's Bushacre 2, but they have slightly different stitching along the sole. They also don't appear to be Ryder iii's like the ones worn by Craig (which have only two eyelets and thinner laces.) Anyone have a bead on these or similar style? Like the look a lot.

Those are the Nordstrom 1901 Barrett. Unfortunately, they don't sell them anymore.

Unfortunately early summer is probably not the best time to be looking for Chukkas. If you wait until later in the summer, stores will start stocking them for fall. A couple places to check:
Banana Republic, JCrew, H&M (premium quality), Allen Edmonds on ebay or factory seconds. If you're ok with Clark's style desert boots, then I would take a hard look at the Astorflex Greenflex, they seem really nice. End clothing has them for a pretty decent price it looks like.

I came here to post that. I ordered some yesterday in the snuff suede. At $100, I think Jack Erwin is a great value.

I have a pair of the 1901 Tyler chukkas (cousin to the Barretts you asked about) in taupe suede:

They're great boots for the money. But I'm on a one-in one-out rule for shoes now, so they have to go to make room for the Jack Erwins. They're size 43 and verrrry lightly used. I'd let em go for $45 shipped if you're interested.

I have a pair of the Thursday Scouts in glazed ginger that I've been very happy with. They're $150.

Do you want desert boots or traditional chukkas? Imo, astorflex makes the best dessert boots, and they're reasonably priced. Much better quality than Clark's.

Traditional chukkas, there are so many choices. Those Jack Erwin's on sale look great.

I got my pair of Jack Erwin snuff suede in yesterday. They're fantastic. Soft, seemingly well-built and good looking. The shape and moderate structure are perfect. The color is much richer than in the product photos, which look odd and as if they were photoshopped or something. I agree with everything in Joe's mini-review here:

    https://dappered.com/2018/05/win-it-...e-chukka-boot/

His photos are much closer to the true color and texture. And better yet, they're down to $87 with free shipping today (if you're between a size 9 and 11). Final sale though.

Glad you like them. There are some other shoes on sale that I've almost pulled the trigger on--the penny loafers for only $70 are a steal. But I have too many already.

This is probably a bit of a stretch for someone in college, but the English company New & Lingwood has a fairly big markdown on their branded calf chukka boot. I caught this deal on the Styleforum Crockett and Jones thread where these were mentioned as being private label produced by C&J. New & Lingwood has a 15% off promo for new customers. I've been looking for a non-suede brown chukka to wear in wet weather and took a flyer on them for what turned out to be $250 (full retail is £399). Scheduled to be delivered this Wednesday so I can't provide any feedback yet.
