Looks good on you. You look reasonably fit, but not like a muscle head, and pull off the look very well.

Thanks. It's actually a beater sweater that I use as a t-shirt and not part of my wardrobe staples. For layering I prefer the cardigan as it seems like the better option (easy to slip on and off, doesn't swallow/smother the collars of my polos, gives off the vest look when layered under jackets), but I have to say this thread has made me reconsidered as I'm liking the more youthful look and the clean front, and I'm planning on eventually getting 2 v-necks in charcoal and dark brown.

To answer the original question, I say why not both. Having a good build looks good. Being well-dressed looks good. If you have a good build and know how to dress well, and you highlight your build (in a non-douchey way) and at the same time hide your imperfections, then you have the best of both worlds.

By the way, I put together this same get-up (except I got dark jeans WITHOUT the rips) and I get compliments every time I wear it. Makes a 59.5 year old man feel good.

The sweater isn't quite so tight, but way more tight than I'm used to. And the jeans ARE just as tight. (Thanks to my wife and all of you encouraging me to go with slimmer cuts). Going daytime wine tasting today and I think this is what I'm going to wear.

I've lost about 10-15 pounds over the last year and close to 25 over the last three.

I guess I need to get used to owning this slimmer body.

Also, thanks for the inspiration. And in general, I've only been participating here around a year, and before that people always complimented me on how I dressed--but now--wow--thanks to all I've learned here, I'd say the compliments are doubled or tripled.
Intentionally overdressed for almost every occasion.

Good job taking the plunge even though you were unsure. Plenty of people I know said that they wanted to wear sportcoat, turtleneck sweater, etc like mine but they never did. There'll be misses when you try something new, but when you get a hit, you get to enjoy it the rest of your life.
