    Boot care question/advice

So, I own a pair of the Bean Katahdin plain-toe boots (in black, fwiw). I imagine that there are some here who own this boot, or its Chippewa equivalent, the service boot, or some similar Chippewa boot. Curious as to what you use to care for these boots. Do you polish these boots? I used some Allen Edmonds leather lotion on mine recently and it was ... ok. So, anyone care to share any tips for maintaining a pair of Katahdin/Chippewa boots?
    TIA

I own a pair of Chipp service boots and besides occasionally wiping them down with a wet cloth to get mud and/or salt off of them I don't give them any special care. Since they are service boots and I didn't pay much for them I don't mind beating the living hell out of them.

I own that exact boot. I do not polish them. What I do once a year is use a horsehair brush (doesn't have to be horsehair but something softer than nylon bristles is gentler) to lather saddle soap onto them and then rinse off the saddle soap under running water (rather than letting it dry and buffing it off as the saddle soap directions usually say). Then I treat them with Nikwax for nubuck and suede to give them some waterproofing. Nikwax also does make a leather conditioner if they are dried out and in need of conditioning. I've never tried the Doc Martins stuff but but am intrigued by what armedferret says about it.
