    July Wedding Outfit Question

    All -

I have my wedding coming up in July and am trying to figure out what color (and fabric) tie that myself and the groomsmen should wear. We will be wearing Navy suits (thinking about picking up a SS Napoli, or suggestions?), wearing a white shirt, and black shoes of course. I like both the look of a solid navy/black tie with a navy suit. I am getting hung up on the tie fabric and whether it should be a solid Satin tie such as https://www.thetiebar.com/product/34505 , or if it should be wool, etc. Wedding will not be super formal, hence not wearing a tux, but I am wearing black cap toe shoes and want it to look well put together. Any input on the tie I should go with?

    July Wedding Outfit Question

Assuming you're in the northern hemisphere, I wouldn't wear a wool tie at a summer wedding.

Maybe grenadines from Chipp? The proper tie for the classic (and very French) look of a navy suit, white shirt and black tie is a grenadine.

I know you are asking more about the tie, but I wanted to make a suggestion on the suit.

In the middle of summer, I really find lighter colors to "feel" better, so I thought that maybe a mid grey suit could be considered as well. Obviously, grey isn't any better than navy (it's all personal preference), but I'd probably go with grey.

As far the tie is concerned, I think a grenadine would be great along with more slubby silk or linen ties. Slubby ties are kind of trendy at the moment, so I'd probably stick with something classic like a grenadine. Again, lighter colors could work, but, since it is a wedding, I'd also stay traditional in color.

All of my advice is trumped by one word from your bride-to-be. The best advice I can give is to wear whatever she'd like you to wear... also, Confucius said "happy wife, happy life." That one's free.

Grenadine is a good choice. Black needs a little texture IMO to look its best. Personally I avoid satin in any color, just personal preference.

Black can sometimes come off too stark and overpower the suit. A slate blue or grey is another nice alternative to avoid matching the navy suit:

Black grenadine seems like an obvious choice here (and for good reason, it'sa classic combo), especially if the navy isn't a midnight navy. Chipp makes some great grenadine ties for reasonable pricing (not TieBar cheap, but not $100 a tie), and has a slate blue like @Silverstreak mentioned (as well as black, of course). http://www.chippneckwear.com/slate-blue-grenadine-tie/

Obviously a lot depends on whether your bride wants ties to match/coordinate with bridesmaids' dresses, or the overall color scheme of the wedding.

Thanks for all of the opinions. I'm leaning towards the black grenadine, but I also like the look of the slate. I think I will get both and see what looks best with the suit I end up with. Lucky for me my fiance is kind of just letting me do whatever I want, but I'll probably give her a choice between the black or slate. Any recommendations on a Navy suit? I was eyeing up a Navy Napoli from their blue line but just noticed it is only available fall/winter. Not sure if their $499 Napoli is worth it or there is a better option for that price.

When they say fall/winter or spring/summer they're just saying what collection it's from, a wool navy suit you can wear year round.

Try suitsupply, if you like the fit then stick with it, it's hard to do much better at that price point

This is why I was confused. The blue line suit that you sent over is described as just "blue" whereas this http://us.suitsupply.com/en_US/suits...in/P3762I.html is labeled as Navy, but is unavailable. Looking for more of a true Navy versus blue

I have a Napoli, a Lazio and a Sienna. My favorite is the Lazio. It's much more elegant than the Napoli. If you're in shape try a Lazio.

I couldn't agree more. The Lazio is definitely my favorite of the flap pocket models.
