Never silly to buy a tux, especially if you can get some periodic use out of it, and buy something appropriately classic. Rental options are typically terrible and expensive (just had a wedding a couple of weeks ago where I had to wear a rental as a member of the wedding party, reminding me of how unimpressive rentals are. At least we picked up as a group and my opinion was sough to make sure fits were correct...). If you own one, then you can find excuses to deploy it. I'm in the market for a good option as well.

Whatever you get, if it's tailored well and you wear it well you will stand out. Jeff P's ensemble was cheaper than our rental cost, and he easily looks better than the bulk of our party did. Fit and confidence are king.
