Allen Edmond - Fifth Avenue black or Park Avenue black

Guys I just buy the Fifth avenue Burnish Brown for my 1st brown shoes, it was a factory 2nd got it for 199$. I'm happy with it.

Now I thinking to get a pair of nice black shoes? Should I stick with the Fifth ave or Park Avenue. I'm thinking I can wear the fifth avenue for a casual/formal/work, not sure if I can do the park avenue casual.

    What are your thoughts?
    thanks in advance guys.

Both of those will be hard to pull off casually, due to their formal styling. Also, black shoes are always more formal than brown.

There are few circumstances where the Fifth Aves won't be appropriate, but the Park Aves will. I'd say go with whichever one you like best.

    What BJM said is true

However, honestly no one will give you crap for wearing black cap toes out to a bar/pub etc. I wear my AE fifth ave's as beater shoes now for a night out on the town.

if you JUST got the fifth aves I'd suggest wearing them for a while and see if they are actually comfortable, walk about 4 miles in a day and see if you love them first!

But by all means go for it, a slick pair of black shoes is always great to see.

thanks guys. Not sure why I thought 5th avenue could be worn casually. Ok still learning. I might get the 5th avenue black, since I like how it looks in the front wit the design.

Are you limited to those two styles? What about a black wingtip? That actually could go from casual to formal.

Seriously, you can wear them casual just fine. Dark Jeans and a sport coat with a black captoe(FA has brouging as well) is just fine. I shouldn't wear walnut shoes when I go out on the town at night..I still do!
I say that because after 5/6(which is it again hah) you wear black yada yada depending on social event and dark brown would be a no no if you followed that ruleset so then you need a nice pair of black. Also any business meeting, evening wedding, semi formal = black cap toe kind of deal

I should point out that's my rough understanding of at dark you wear black shoes or the boogeyman will get you type deal, honestly think dark brown would be great for cocktail attire and someone would have to be a real big dbag to give you a hard time.

Don't overthink it! 99% of the time people will appreciate you dressing up.

I prefer the Fifth Ave over Park Ave.

Since we're already talking about AE, the McAllister would be a perfectly fine wingtip.

Allen Edmonds has several different kinds. The McTavish is less formal, the MacNeil and MacAllister are more formal (whichever one is the blucher is less formal, but still more formal than the McTavish. I think the blucher might be a good option because it could be worn with jeans or a suit and still look -- for the most part -- appropriate. There are lots of other black wingtips out there, though. What's your price range?

if I had my choice, I'd get a pair of the Fifth Aves over the Park Aves as well. Still pretty formal, but the brouging adds a little visible interest.
