Thoughts on this as a dress watch

I'm considering this watch to go along with my Easy Reader on Natos.

I would likely put it on a black leather strap that I have instead of the bracelet that it comes with. Would this make a good dress/dress casual watch? Here is a pic of it on a leather strap.

I think that's a nice-looking watch, and a nice-looking watch/strap combo. Suit-ready for sure. A black croc strap like the one in the picture is pretty formal, though. If you want a watch that can be worn a little more easily in casual situations, you might consider getting a strap with contrast stitching, or at least just a plain calfskin strap that won't be quite as glossy as the croc. Depending on how often you plan to wear it with black shoes, you might consider a brown strap instead of black.

I have a Seiko 5 and have been very pleased with its accuracy over time. They are nice watches for the price.

That's a really nice watch! I have a different Seiko 5 and I love it. I actually have a few more expensive watches but for some reason, the Seiko 5 has become my preferred watch. I also agree on the comment BenR made about the Croc strap in the picture being dressy so for more casual situations, I would go with something like this:

Thanks for the feedback guys. Would the bracelet it comes with be alright for more casual situations also? I didn't really start swapping watch straps until I got my easy reader and some Natos so how difficult would it be to switch the bracelet and a leather strap back and forth?

Yes, the metal band is more casual. Switching between straps is not as easy as switching Natos but once you get the hang of it, it's not that difficult. I would recommend getting a spring bar remover to switch the straps.

And just like that it's sold out on Amazon and eBay. Oh well I need more time to make sure that's what I want to get anyway.

              Still available here: http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNXS73-Automatic-Silver-Tone-Watch/dp/B001BM6BGS/ref=sr_1_1?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1326307282&sr=1-1

eBay is usually a good place to find Seikos, as well.

Good find. Unfortunately around $75 is about max I can justify spending on a watch at the moment. I'll keep a look out for it to pop up again at the lower price.

You might take a look at these ones as well:

nice watch. Have been looking at one too, but there are so many seiko 5 under $100, a lot of non-chorno/diver ones that look pretty much the same with just a change in dial/hands/marker color. Wish I could see all of them in person to decide. I am thinking of picking the SNXG47 and get some dark brown croc strap (maybe with white stitching)on it.

In my dream world, I'd have one of those SARB model...it's just a dream...

I like the SNK789 that BenR posted. I've actually had that on my Amazon wish list for a few weeks along with the SNZJ53.

There really are a lot of nice Seikos in the price range. There's just something about the shape of the SNXF09 and the SNXS73. The face of the SNXS73 is just a little bit less busy which gives it the edge for me. I'll see if I find one again at a good price, but as you guys have shown there are a lot of great options.

What are your thoughts on this Seiko?

I think I still prefer the shape of the original one I posted, but maybe not. Which do you think would look better with a leather strap? Just looking for opinions.

I guess it would be wrong to say they all look the same to me?

laxattackdog, I have that same model of Seiko 5 except with the blue dial. I think it looks real nice on a leather strap.

I also brushed the bezel. It comes with a mirror-polish bezel but I was going crazy with a Scotch-brite pad at the time.
