Aldo Brownlie or Cole Haan Air Colton

    Hi all,

In need of a decent dark brown/mahogany wingtip shoe for a event coming in the next few days. Just spent a lot of money over the holiday season, so I'm looking for something semi-affordable, but then again I don't want Payless Shoe Store cheap. Need to run to the mall tomorrow afternoon, so unfortunately online not a good option at the moment.

Saw this, decent brand, on sale...Cole Haan Air Colton $130

    Aldo Brownlie $100, reg price

I've heard great things about Cole Haan's products (at least their women's shoes!) and their comfort. Plus, the Colton looks a lot better, so I'd choose that. They'll probably last a lot longer too.

Though I've never had any of their dress shoes, I've had good experiences with Cole Haan's more casual shoes. Plus, I think they look a lot nicer than the Aldos. They get my vote.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd get the Cole Haans. Aldos won't last more than a dozen wears.

I have Cole Haan Air Colton plain toes that I love. They may not last as long as Allen Edmonds but they're very good for what they are.

x5 for the cole haans and x2 on them being good for what they are. Not a big fan of aldo shoes either

I'd go for the Cole Haans, of those two.

Just to confuse the issue, though, here are a couple of Florsheims in the same price range:

I'd want to see the Florsheim in person... I see a lot of Florsheim at the thrifts and some of the cheaper models use corrected grain leather that's basically like plastic. Those first ones look like that type of leather. Not sure about the 2nd pair.

Yeah, those aren't top-of-the-line Florsheims so they won't be the greatest, but I imagine they're probably on par with the quality of the other shoes the OP posted.

I have a Cole Haan brown suede belt that I got at Marshalls which seems to be high quality leather and well made.

@BenR I'm not so sure... The leather quality of my Cole Haan's is pretty good. Probably a bit better than my Florsheim Gaffney's, although both are full-grain (not grain-corrected) leather

Just bought the Air Colton myself.. Haven't received them yet, but I have about 5 pairs of Cole Haan shoes.

Stay away from those Aldo shoes! I tried those specific pair on, wow they were horrible! The leather was Terrible, the heel rubs against foot due to terrible support design. There sizes are so inaccurate and fluctuate in each pair.

I wouldn't pay 30$ for them at marshals let alone 100...
