    Tie Help

I'm trying to locate a tie for my Engagement Party next month. I'd like something similar to this (http://www.thetiebar.com/order_page....ptionValueIds=) in red from 2-2.5" in width. Any ideas? Wearing a navy suit with a lighter blue shirt and I thought that would be a good look. I like classic patterns in modern cuts.

I know this is a bit wider than what you're looking for, but I really like this one from Brooks Brothers:

Here are some slimmer options from BB that would work well:

      #2 - http://www.brooksbrothers.com/Crossi...os=7&cgid=0210

Not sure if you have enough lead time but if you went the custom route, Sam Hober has some patterns similar to what you're looking for, and you'd be able to specify the width.

What style of suit are you wearing? This advice will probably be panned, but unless you are very skinny and wearing a jacket with very skinny lapels, I wouldn't recommend wearing a tie that skinny. I think the tide has turned on the skinny tie trend, so pics from your engagement party will look dated fairly soon. I'd wear a more traditional width. High end menswear stores like The Armoury and No Man Walks Alone aren't even carrying anything under 8 cm anymore.

RL has some, but even their "narrow" width is 3": http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/i...uctId=22359386

I know it's not skinny, but this might work:

Wait for a 30% off discount though. LE ties are a good value at around $30

Agreed. As always, Fred, very nice looking suggestions.

Listen to Fred G. Unn here.

On the side, I personally think red can look a little work-y (at least try to make it dull or textured or dark and less "power tie!"). Have you considered brown or a darker green?

Not that I don't appreciate the idea that skinny ties are jumping the shark, but is that true? I never went under 3" because with my shoulders and general size it looks silly---generally I find that 3 1/8th or 8cm is pretty money and will never look out of place.

As for your question, depending on what price range you're looking at, Sid Mashburn makes some ties that might fit the bill.

I'm skinny. I wear a 36R. Honestly, anything around 3" looks goofy on me. Most of my ties are 2.5" and they look great.

I usually stay away from Green or Brown for some reason. I think either would look pretty good as well.

Very nice, probably a bit out of my price range though.

That's almost spot on. I was hoping for something a tad brighter and skinnier though. Thanks!
