good urban yet professional looking messenger/laptop bag?

I was hoping to pick up the heavily featured: Jcrew Twill laptop bag but its now discontinued:

So I bought this hoping it would be the same but its quite ugly in person:

Can anyone else here recommend something?

Not sure what your budget is but Filson's bags are awesome. I just ordered a different one but have a look at this.

I know it's not the same as the JCrew, but Knomo seems to make really nice bags. I've had my eye on this one:

I've had my eye on this bag for a while, but I'm just not sure how well it would work as a laptop bag.

I'm sure you could put your laptop in a sleeve to protect it while in the bag.

@Squire, i saw that same bag last night in thier catalog and i really liked it too. Although its not leather, its got the LL Bean quality factor which i really like.

I am in love with my Jack Spade file case. Its got the shape of a good hardcase briefcase but made of waxwear cotton or ballistic nylon so its not too stuffy. I use it sans the shoulder strap but one is included to tote it around messenger bag style. The center portion is padded for a laptop and there are some smaller pockets, one that zips, and a spot for two pens inside. On the outside you've got a full length zippered pocket on one side, which I usually keep my iPad or magazines in, and the other side has a small pocket thats the perfect fit for a water bottle or umbrella.

For $155 you can go with navy blue (which is what I got and is currently on close-out) and had dipped to as low as $117 with recent sales.

You can get different color ways for more $$$ or the primo option is the black ballistic nylon. I'm especially taken with the brown waxwear but the price difference between the discounted navy and the full price brown was too great to ignore.

I get lots of compliments on it and ladies gush over it being Jack Spade.
