Friday Challenge 9/6/13 - Pop of Color

Those dreaded words - a "pop of color." Some people hate this term, but it is virtually impossible not to encounter it in a style forum.

This week your outfit needs to show of one such pop of color. The rules: Your outfit must be all neutral except for a single, brightly colored or boldly patterned item.

    The usual rules:

1.) A challenge is proposed (typically on a Monday, unless the poster is a slacker, in which case the wee hours of Tuesday morning will just have to suffice).

2.) Ideas are bounced around throughout the week, any questions are codified, and guidelines are put into place.

3.) On Friday (or before), everyone dresses according to the challenge's parameters.

4.) On Saturday, all challengers are recorded and voting opens to see who best represents the challenge.

5.) A winner is chosen by plurality vote on Sunday, and the winner is responsible for choosing the next week's challenge.

I think I may have a secret weapon to turn this one on it's head. I'll have to try it out and see how it goes, but I see potential...

so what qualifies as 'color' anyway. I mean, technically anything but black, white
and grey is a color, but i'm assuming beige is acceptable as a non-color. what about navy blue? brown?

Does it pop? If so, it's a pop of color. If not, it's not a pop of color. The voters will have their say, I imagine. I would bet that a bright color would win this competition, but perhaps if you find a way to make brown "pop" some folks will reward you for your technical skill. But most will probably vote for the dude with the neon pink pocket square.

For the purposes of menswear, I believe the most widely-accepted neutrals are black, white, grey, browns (including chocolate, tan, beige, etc.), navy blue (including dark denim), and possibly olive green.

Please note that, although your outfit should be almost entirely neutral, it need not be monochromatic.

You can interpret the theme whatever way you'd like, but keep in mind that the voters will be the ultimate judge.

THanks. that's just what I needed to know. More or less what I expected, though I tend to think browns and dark blues have their own kinds of pop.

Wore this all day in DC while showing family around but didn't realize until I got home that technically this qualifies since just the polo is colorful. I wish my brown C&B buckle strap had already come in to put on my new Orient that I got a few days ago. For now I put a black Maratac strap on there.

                polo - JCrew Factory
                pants - BR
                shoes - Walk-over
                watch - Orient

Diggin' the watch, Vicious. So was the stock Orient strap sucky? It actually kinda looked it in Joe's main site contest post about it, but seems like he said it was OK. I googled some pics last week, and it didn't look so nice. I plan to put mine on a Hirsch Liberty, if it looks whack when it shows up. Either that or a cheaper, but still decent Dakota flieger one.... Or both!

                    Anyway, nice *pop*!

The strap wasn't bad but I wanted to put a brown strap on there. My main problem with the stock strap was that I had to tighten all the way to the 2nd hole but at that point the strap was too thick to easily fit through the buckle if that makes sense.

I was looking at the Hirsch Liberty as well but ended up going with this C&B strap instead since it seemed to have a bit more of a 'vintage' look to it. It was $10 cheaper as well, but that didn't really factor in to the decision much.

Here's my own contribution, as a possible example rather than an entry. (Bruschetta - please don't include me in the poll, I'm not looking to compete this week.)

Bonobos jacket, Carhartt shirt, thrifted tie, JCF pants, J&M shoes. The belt (by Nantucket) is my pop o' color.

Apparently I do have a natural light pic that the wife took earlier in the day.

Mods - Could you add this to my earlier post since it will no longer allow me to edit it. Thanks.

I don't always pop color... but when I do, I prefer *mis calcetines*.

                              Stay dappered, my friends.
