Friday Challenge 8/30/13 - Back To Basics

Friday Challenge 8/30/13 - Back To Basics

We had blue challenge. We had black and white (and green) challenge. We had stripes and squares (gingham). I think it is time to go back...to basics.
With threads popping up almost every week about the fit and "what is your favorite pair of khakis/shirts" I think it is time for us to show off our best best khakis and how they fit. So, the main goal is to feature your pair of your favorite khakis. Another must is that they have to be in one of hues/shades of that yellow/brown that most people associate with color of khakis pants. Hopefully we will all discover how we can incorporate khakis in our wardrobes in some new ways! (I know i will, so so many great menswear guys here)
So go ahead, show off those Docker Alphas, Banana Republics, Bonobos, Jack Donnellys, Orvis, Epaulets etc!

    The usual rules:

1.) A challenge is proposed (typically on a Monday, unless the poster is a slacker, in which case the wee hours of Tuesday morning will just have to suffice).
2.) Ideas are bounced around throughout the week, any questions are codified, and guidelines are put into place.
3.) On Friday (or before), everyone dresses according to the challenge's parameters.
4.) On Saturday, all challengers are recorded and voting opens to see who best represents the challenge.
5.) A winner is chosen by majority vote on Sunday, and the winner is responsible for choosing the next week's challenge.

Well, I don't think it's gonna win any contests (haha) but since this is exactly what I wore today, here it is.

Very basic, and the pants are a good size too big anymore.

I think the socks are even Merona!

Can we expand this to include navy Khakis? That's pretty basic/classic too.

Who doesn't own a pair of khaki chinos? I'm fine with that restriction and should be wearing mine today.

I don't! :P The only chinos I have are in weird colors.

I'm wearing a white polo with wool dress slack khaki(khaki khaki's???) with a solid crease right in the middle. Shoulda taken a pic earlier hah.

If you don't own khaki chinos, get thee to Target!

In some offices the Khaki color is TOO casual so I shall just bow out of this gracefully. Good day Sirs!

Nice look, andrew. I always seem to walk right past the pants offerings at Target. But I like the look of those chinos, so maybe I should start stopping.... err... you know what I meant.

The Merona Ultimates are too baggy for me, but my legs are fairly slim.

I'm a little surprised that andrew doesn't find issue with the Merona stuff, actually, as I understand he's lost some serious weight (he's quite slim - that's not a negative, BTW - LOL), and I (who am not as slim as I'd like) tend to swim in some of their stuff. I have several of the Ultimate Dress Shirts, but I can really only wear them confidently under a jacket. My shoulders and ribcage (I'd say *chest*, but that sounds like I'm buff - I'm not) are too big for me to size down, so I find myself a 'tweener of sorts in Merona's offerings. They're great quality for the price, IMO, so I really wish that wasn't the case for me, but it is.

Anyway, IMO, they look good on andrew - not too loose, not really slim either - sometimes slim works better, sometimes not. His fit there isn't what I guess you'd call *fashionable* (again sometimes that works - other times not), but I think it's *stylish*. Good stuff!

Now I need to see if I can squeeze in a quick photoshoot soon. Otherwise I might miss my only real window for this week. Ugh!

The Merona chinos are not real slim, but they're not terrible. Those are a bit baggy up top on me, I could easily go one size down, but probably not all the way to a 30. The legs are just fine, for me. I really need to get a better picture set up so the pants fit is easier to see. For me the JCF Bedford slims have just about a perfect leg, for reference.

That ultimate shirt is a size .....small. I'm just barely six foot, currently just under 160 lbs and the only thing is the sleeves are a touch short. The top button is tight but doable. The medium I'm wearing today feels quite large in comparison.

And I agree yoyo, not "fashionable", and that isn't a bad thing, but I've learned that it doesn't take much to be considered fashionably progressive at my job. Like a gingham shirt, or those blue Champlains are about as daring as I can go. My direct boss is very supportive, but I don't want to rock the greater boat more than necessary!
