    Friday challenge 7/19/2013 - stripes

Ok, following on the heels of last week's Friday Challenge, we are starting up another one. Apologies in advance that I'm going to be out of the country for a couple of weeks starting on Sunday, so I likely won't join in the festivities until I get back. Here is the procedure, devised by Alan:

1.) A challenge is proposed (typically on a Monday, but we're starting early this time).
2.) Ideas are bounced around throughout the week, any questions are codified, and guidelines are put into place.
3.) On Friday, everyone dresses according to the challenge's parameters.
4.) On Saturday, all challengers are recorded and voting opens to see who best represents the challenge.
5.) A winner is chosen by majority vote on Sunday, and the winner is responsible for choosing the next week's challenge.

    And here's this week's theme:

    STRIPES

No, I'm not talking about the 1981 film with Bill Murray and John Candy. I'm talking about "a long narrow band or strip, typically of the same width throughout its length, differing in color from the surfaces that surround it." Not just texture -- solid knit ties don't count as "striped" just because the knit pattern makes some lines on them -- no, I mean differently-colored lines in parallel to one another. Vertical, horizontal or angled: take your pick. Candy, Bengal, Hairline, Pin, Awning, Multi-color: it's up to you.

Everyone reading this owns something with stripes on it. There's no reason you shouldn't join in...

Here are the rules (adapted from Alan's rules from last week):
1.) At least one visible item of clothing must be striped. Not just a bag or an accessory -- an actual article of clothing (shirt, pants, jacket, hat, tie, belt, socks). Additional striped pieces are welcome, but not required.
2.) The style (casual, formal, etc.) is completely up to you.

Here's the criteria: the best use of stripes in the outfit. Interpretation of that criteria is up to you, the voter.

You can submit early if you like. If you submit multiple images, the last image submitted prior to the deadline will be counted as your entry. Ready... Set... GO!

This one is actually gonna be pretty hard for me! As chance would have it, most of my striped stuff is also the stuff that fits the worst.

It's probably also worth mentioning that it can be ANYTHING with stripes, right? I'm assuming it refers to shirts (of all styles), ties, shorts, pants, etc in addition to suits and sport coats. Does that sound about right?

I think that makes sense -- it just has to have striped clothing. Speaking only for myself, if someone has a nice outfit but the only striped things are socks hidden by their pants, I wouldn't think of that being a particularly good use of stripes. I think my vote will go to the person who uses stripes to do something interesting in their outfit -- not crazy, but something that makes a statement.

Of course, someone else may think that the subtlety of the striped socks makes a big statement... whatever works for you!

Ehhh... If it's just a striped accessory, it may qualify in rule, but not in spirit.

Well, I did say it must be a striped piece of clothing -- I'd be of the opinion that only a striped bag wouldn't qualify... But a belt, socks, hat, I'd say ok -- in rule but not spirit, and I'd reflect that in my vote. YMMV.

                Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.

I have a feeling I'm going to dream in stripes tonight.

No, not my pajamas. Wait, did I just give away my outfit idea?

I think the hard part for many of us will be incorporating as many stripes as possible without eliciting a reaction of: "Wow. That's sure a lot of stripes."

This one is going to require some serious thought and planning. Challenge accepted. Come hell or high water, or anything else bad for that matter, I will post a submission this week!

Agreed. This will definitely be a challenge for me. I think I have a striped shirt, I'm gonna have to double check.

...Bright red candy-striped boxers, an American flag worn as a toga, and rainbow crocs? DAMMIT Cologne Guy, stop reading my mind!

I have my outfit picked out for this challenge, but I'm worried that my submission will be held back by my poor photography skills. To be fair, that can act as my handicap so that you guys have a fighting chance. Bazinga!
