For shirts: plain white and light blue are the easy ones, with grey, navy or khaki pants, or you could use a pattern -- white with blue tattersall, blue stripes, blue gingham, etc. I'd also do a grey-white gingham with navy blue or khaki pants. More difficult combinations can be done, of course, but those are the failsafe ones.

As for pants, check this out -- the first post: http://jrd617sguides.tumblr.com

What color shirt are you thinking of, jwest? Throw out some suggestions and we'll be glad to weigh in.

Don't pair navy with olive (for pants). Pink is a good one, actually. A white with pink tattersall or purple-white gingham also sound nice to me.

@ Shadow: thanks, that is a fun one to ponder.
@BB: the grey pants and grey gingham are something i hadn't thought of, i've got the pants and i'll give them a try, now i think i need a new shirt too! And the Navy pants work for me, nice pics find.
@ Duvel: BB and Mikey gave me some good ideas as i was having trouble getting past a basic white or blue.
@ Mikey: Pink- interesting, this i will try.. Purple gingham- awesome, this sounds perfect!

My thoughts exactly on this one. Not that pink/purple won't work either, but navy/olive is a classic combination (maybe too traditional for some?)

Pink. Blue, including patterns like gingham and tattersall. White. Light yellow or ecru. Possibly a red/white patterned shirt. Maybe a very light orange.

Made a presentation last week in a jacket like that, blue slacks, pink shirt, blue knit tie with white/red bars in it. A bit informal in terms of the tie and jacket, but also a tiny bit peacocky in terms of the colors. In a business casual setting, so I think it looked good.
