Is a non-pointy slim dress shoe out there?

Anyone know of a good black oxford that is slim and slightly elongated (though not elf-shoe like)? I figure they'd have to be European as I think most American styles tend to be bulkier. I wanted to like AEs since they are well made, but the edges of the sole stick out too much for my liking. I'm guessing that's the welting that needs more space, but I'd like the sole to ideally not stick out from the leather top. Most of the slimmer shoes seem to eliminate the sole protrusion, but they usually are too pointy and have a spear like appearance from overhead. I guess looking for some middle ground. Any recommendations? Looking for under $200 if possible, but willing to go up a bit if it's the right shoe.

    Thanks!

Here are top-down shots of all of Meermin's lasts. Which one appeals to you most?

Here is something I think you will like. These are Mercanti Fiorentini shoes from DSW and I think they are a house brand. They get some love on the boards for their price point. They have the elongated chisel toe which it sounds like you want. Made in Italy but a glued sole but for the price look great. I have some glued sole and rubber bottom shoes that are just fine and perfect.

The Vil and the New Rey are what I'm thinking. Seems like they are only available with the Linea Maestro line. Do you have any experience with Meermin? Are they worth the higher cost and the shipping issues if they don't work out?

The Mercanti look pretty good, but how is the quality? On the threads it seems most lean toward spending more on better shoes. Would the Meermin be the better bet then? I guess I could order these and easily return to DSW if I don't like them and then gamble with the fit of the Meermins.

          Thanks for the feedback guys!

I was recommended these Andrew Locks by someone on the board (thanks, DanielM!) and I love them:

              Buy them here:

Put This On vouches for their quality:

If I'm not mistaken, the FB10 code still works for 10% off which brings them down to $225 shipped.

He mentions European style which is more pointy than other shoes. He also has a price point which I was trying to stay within. Meermin works if he knows how the shoe fits but with currency conversion and shipping it would put him over the $200 price point. I had to size up from a 45 to a 46 when trying on different lasts at Bexley of Paris.

Those Andrew Locks look nice. A good mix of a traditional style with a slim profile. Too bad they don't have my size in stock anymore. I'll keep an eye out for them if they do come back in stock. Thanks for the tip!

I admit the Vil last is pointy, but they don't seem as bad as some I have seen. I feel for a slim profile it would have to be something elongated and a little pointy (European styling is what I am looking for). Maybe with a slight chisel it would cut down on the effect like the Mercanti's JBarwick suggested. I guess pictures don't always do justice as I've seen pics of shoes I thought were narrow but in person were wider and slightly narrow in pics that were super narrow and elfish. That or I just have terrible visual acumen!
