Best place to find a blazer... caveats included

    Hi all,

I'm on the hunt for both casual and dressy blazers. I'm having trouble finding anything though. Maybe you can help.

    Here are the requirements:

    1. Must be slim fit. I'm pretty thin, and need something that will hug my shoulders.

    2. Must not have a high button stance. I hate this trend. Uniqlo blazers fit me perfectly except for this failure.

    3. Must be able to try on in person (or have a very good return policy)

    4. Navy blazers must have dark buttons (black, brown horn, etc). Bronze/silver buttons look preppy and disgusting to me

    5. Non-functional buttons so I can alter sleeves

    6. No weird ticket pockets/etc

    7. Price must match quality. That is, I'm willing to pay up to $150 or so for a cheap fused blazer. Up to $300 for a half canvassed blazer. NOT willing to pay Jcrew or Banana republic $400+ for a crappy fused blazer.

    8. I know that thrift stores are an option, but I'm a smaller size (38), so rarely can find anything. Let's ignore them as an option for this conversation.

    Where do you live?

Good question - live in DC, can make it to NYC fairly easily.

Mall stores near me: banana republic, gap, jcrew, macys, sears, club monaco

Nicer stores near me: brooks brothers, nordstrom,

Discount places near me: filene's basement, several outlet malls with most of the mall brands above

Well, if you are in New York, maybe give 'Onassis Clothing' a try for your casual blazers. I haven't purchased from them yet but I have heard good things. Sabir Peele

( ) looks sharp when he wears them.

Try H&M or Topman here in NYC.

As much as I hate H&M I bought a really nice blazer from them a while back. It's one of my favorite pieces of clothing now. It's worth a shot.

Well, if you're willing to pay for quality, I'd take a train ride up to NYC and go to SuitSupply ( and look at something like this:

Also, if you're on twitter tweet your question to @ImageGranted. He's a DC area style consultant and knows all the places around there. He also thrifts there, so he might be able to tell you the good places to look if you want to try that first.

BTW I see that Brooks Brothers is having a clearance... Nothing in the navy blazer department in 38 but maybe worth a look:

                x2 on suitsupply

^Maybe it's just their models, but their cuts are very flattering. I've had this suit stuck in my head since I saw it months ago:

I would have to fly to get there; maybe make a weekend of it. I never thought I would want a piece of clothing that bad.

                  My Measurements: 6' 1" height, 35" sleeves, 41-42" chest/jacket, 35" waist, 34" inseam, 11.5D/EEE shoes, 200 lbs

I'm planning on heading up to NYC again sometime in the next few months (4 hour $20 bus ride for me), so I'll definitely check them out.

Hmm... reading that suitsupply jackets have very high button stances. Guess they are out =/

Do you have a Stein Mart? Go check it out. Do you know how to do the pinch test to look for canvassed jackets?

                          Nordstrom Rack...if u got one

Man, I really wish I had one. Although... That could be dangerous

Yup, Nordstrom Rack nearby, but haven't had much luck there.

I'm headed near the outlet mall soon, so might check out NM Last Call.
