    New Ludlow

So every time I decide my next suit is going to be Suitsupply, that I don't need a fifth Ludlow, J.Crew does this. Frank Muytjens must have malware on my computer. Check this thing out. I'm sure everyone has a perfect suit - one that has every detail they like most - J.Crew just put out mine: peak lapels, blue not navy, ticket pocket. Check this out:

Thoughts? Convince me to pay rent this month instead of buying it?

Nice looking suit.. I would make sure it's canvassed at that price.

I think you should buy the suit instead of paying rent. It would be more entertaining for us. McDonalds has free wi-fi now so you can still post from there after you're homeless. Be sure to post pics though. I'd like to see how your suits are being stored at that point.

I agree, you should buy the suit. Then tell me where you live, so I could buy one too with the money I'd save.

Wow they did a terrible job with fit for the model on that thing
Non functional buttons...for $632?! And I have to laugh at them flipping up his sleeve trying to imitate what functional buttons would allow.

              PASS

for $500 you could get a fully customized suit from black lapel with similar colour, half canvassed and with functional buttons.

                Dear all,

Life on the road is hard, but it is a small consolation that I look fantastic. As promised, here is a picture

I like it, and Im fine with non functioning buttons. Functioning buttons are pretty much the reason I cant wear BR jackets since the arms are just too short and cant be easily tailored. Plus although I used to think it looks cool now with lower end companies also having functioning buttons I think it can just look too showy sometimes.

If you're getting a custom made suit there is zero reason to not have functioning buttons, sure if you're buying off the rack I can see the argument for tailoring. Not sure how having a proper traditional made suit would be too showy compared to the corner cutting version

Incase anyone is curious why i'm so harsh about the jcrew suit

I'd buy a blue suit from Suitsupply ($500 vs $800?). Mix it up a bit and save some rent.

A bit off topic but I thought this might help...

I believe (but I could be wrong) that lengthening sleeves with functioning buttons is actually not as bad as trying to shorten them. A good tailor could add new button holes to the sleeves to keep the proper look. Whereas when trying to shorten them, the holes can get too close to the edge.

This is the post I'm using as a reference, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong:

I agree that for most off the rack suits, functioning button holes are annoying. Leave it to MTM and bespoke IMO.

Back on topic. Maybe wait for a sale? (Does J. Crew ever do sales that don't exclude suiting?)
While I myself am looking at Suitsupply, I do wish that I had the opportunity to try one on. But they don't have a store on the west coast yet. Crossing my fingers for one to come to either LA or the Bay Area.
