[REVIEW] Rugby Ralph Lauren Wool Vest Review

I know Yacko had mentioned that he and at least 1 other person were interested. I bought the Rugby wool glen plaid vest, like this one: p=3138868

Very similar, but I can't find the glen plaid one anymore. The construction is quite nice. 100% wool on the front in a chunky tweed-like knit. The back of the vest is tan 100% cotton. The fit is where there is an issue. Not athletic shape here, mostly a square. I am 6' and 185lb athletic build. I wear a 40R jacket and 32w on pants. The medium fit me well in the chest but was too baggy in the middle, even cinched. For the price I got on it, I would pay to have it tailored, but it is about 1/2"-1" too short for me, IMO.

Thus, it's a great looking vest with high quality materials. I had high hopes, but if you are a bit taller and more of an athletic shape, I would save your money unless the S would fit you in the chest.

I am a vest fan, if anyone has a good source for a similar style (more fall-oriented) that would be great.

That vest looks amazing. Too bad it doesn't fit better. Thanks for the update.

I'm not one to wear a vest just because I don't like the twill or satin like finish that is on the back of most vests. (unless I am wearing the vest in a formal situation like a wedding, etc.) For a casual, 'stand-a-lone' vest, I prefer vests that have the same material on the front & back (similar to the LL Bean example below).

      Anyway, hopefully these are helpful:

      Macy's Tasso Elba

      Macy's Kenneth Cole

      Urban Outfitters

      LL Bean

@Greg - Thanks for posting the update, sorry it didn't work out. I was wondering about the 'classic' fit on Rugby stuff. Passing on the Shetland Cardigan still bugs me.

@kmarizo - I appreciate the links. I think I have a something against vests with lapels; for some reason I'm not comfortable with those yet. I see all vests with lapels have a matching back; they are not designed to be worn with a jacket(or I wouldn't anyway).

        My Measurements: 6' 1" height, 35" sleeves, 41-42" chest/jacket, 35" waist, 34" inseam, 11.5D/EEE shoes, 200 lbs

Yeah that cardigan was rocking. Who knows, the sweaters might work as sizing down in sweaters can help to accommodate the stretching over time. Or it could just be awkwardly proportioned as well.
