Help Me Replace My Chukkas

I have owned a pair of Timberland chukkas for about 2 years. I noticed when I took them off last night that the rubber sole was starting to separate from the shoe. I am looking to now replace them. Here's what I am looking for.

1. Brown
2. Rubber sole
3. Dressy enough for business casual.
4. Not overly expensive since these will be my rain shoes.
5. Under $100 if possible.

A boot is preferred, but not required.

Have you looked at Clark's Desert Boots or Bushacres in beeswax? Everyone raves about those. The sole is crepe, not rubber, but otherwise it hits your other points, depending on how strict your interpretation of business casual is.

Business casual is a must, and I don't feel that those would work well in the office.

I was able to get the AE Malverns for $125 during their recent 2 for $250 sale. That's a bit over your budget and the more likely issue is that they might not have any more available. But it would definitely fulfill your other criteria.

Certainly not. I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing them with anything besides casual chinos and jeans. The way the leather ages and the last shape make them very casual.

I'll second Vicious's recommendation of the Malverns. I too purchased them on that sale. Since they're being discontinued, eBay may be the only option there. Others have had good things to say about Johnston & Murphy's Runnell. On the casual end, you could try J Crew's MacAlister boots in leather on a sale.

Clarks suede DBs, especially in dark brown, are fine for business casual. They go great with chinos, even dressier chinos. I even wore mine recently with my suit when I flew because I wanted something easy to slip in and out of, and I wanted to save my good dress shoes for the interview.

I just got a pair of these. Very comfortable, good looking in a plain/understated sort of way, seem to be right in your price range and meet all your criteria.

Which begs the question, should I try something different?

On the J&R Runnell tip, if you have a Lord & Taylor nearby, check them out for their clearance racks. I got two pair of them for $51 each. They're $135 right down the hallway at the J&M shop inside the same mall. Here's a couple unboxing posts of mine:

I'd say they are just a *tad* more dressy than Clarks DBs - but not by much. Maybe it's just the additional lace eyelets, leading to a higher and tighter ankle closure - dunno. They're pretty darn casual, but I wore mine today to the office. Our office's dress code is all over the maps these days. Heck the guy I sit closest to wears a baseball cap everyday.

Comparing them to the oiled nubuck, as weird as it may sound, I might call the suedes the dressier of the two. Of course they are getting their maiden voyage wearing today, so that title may not last very long.

I have the plain-toe blucher version of the Headley, in taupe suede, and it's pretty darn sweet.

I know you said you wanted them to be "brown" but just wasn't sure if you wanted leather or suede. They may make a leather version too.
