Finally got around to black shining my brown shoes

So I've had the BR Digby for the last year or so (http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse...&pid=905293012). Great shoe, but I primarily use them for extended business trips where I don't want to bring my more expensive shoes (foul weather, back to back wearings, etc). Oddly enough, I think I get more compliments on these than I do my walnut AE Strands.

Anyway, for a while I've been wanting to darken them up so I finally went ahead and polished them with black shoe polish like Joe demonstrated a few months ago (http://dappered.com/2012/10/the-sugg...ck-shoe-creme/). Pictures don't do the color change justice, but here's what I came away with (please pardon crappy cell phone pics):

one coat of black on vs the standard color

original vs walnut vs black polish

after two coats of black polish. I feel it looks lighter in the pic than in person

I was able to find a pair of Kiwi original waxed laces that are very similar to the AE laces on the Strands. That said, where do people go to find laces?! I visited a DSW, Macy's, and Target before finding a pair for these shoes. I still need to find a pair of 40" round brown laces for a pair of boots dress boots.

    Comments and critique welcome.

    Cheers,

Needsupply.com has some laces you might like, including Aldens. Nice look on the shoes.

I just picked up a few pairs of laces from the AE store earlier today for about $4 each.

The only laces I see on need supply's site are 30" and 54".

An actual AE store or one that just sells AE? Nordstroms seems to only have colorful laces, and none around 40"

I did the black polish thing with a pair of longtips that I picked up for very cheap at a Sak's 5th Avenue outfit. They were originally in a tan color, lighter than a wlanut color. I used walnut, then dark brown, than black shoes cremes over the course of a week and now they are similar in color to the AE Burboun color. Made them look great

AE's website sells them for $3 shipped. These in 30 inch brown are what they put on the Strands and what I put on almost all my dress shoes: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline...40000000001_-1

For my Stafford wingtip boots, I bought the 39" version of these and they look great: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline...40000000001_-1
