    Slim briefcases/laptop bags on Etsy

I am looking for a nice slim laptop bag / briefcase under 125 dollars to carry a macbook air / ipad / a notebook and a novel or 2. The dress code at work is business casual.

I saw some nice looking bags on Etsy but all of them ship from Hong Kong and, I fear, are rather high on the boom-or-bust scale.. Does anyone have any experience with buying such items from Etsy? Here are the options I'm looking at:

The fallback option is a Timbuk2 Control TSA bag. I saw a couple of Knomo ones but they're too compact (width) and I am not a fan of the cross body loops and I already carry a waxed-canvas satchel (gymbag) at times to work.

No idea how the quality is, but that first one looks sweet!

With Etsy products, unless someone has purchased from that exact seller, it's hard to say. Everything is supposed to be hand-made, and as a result, the quality varies from seller to seller.

You can look at their feedback and see how many sales they have to get an idea of how well their business is doing.

I like the 1st one the most (esp. the lining!) but the seller only has 2 feedbacks.. The seller of the last 2 has 89-90 +ve feedbacks..

The first seller does have 36 sales at least, (in the past 1 month since the store opened). So hopefully it is a legit store. Still no way to tell the quality though for sure.

The third one looks similar to Jack Spade in style and I like that one.

I'm having the same problem. There are some Hong Kong sellers that have a large number of views, but they cost about twice as much.

I really like the first one you listed. Also from the same seller, I like this one if it were to be dyed differently.

Buyer beware on a lot of those. I am sure they are perfectly fine, but none of them appear to be full grain leather and most are listed as "genuine leather." That is a step (or 2, I'm not sure) below full grain and will not wear as well.

This is worth a quick read. http://www.saddlebackleather.com/Leather-101

Looks like nice but I would rather have something that lasts decades

They all look good, but I am very hesitant to buy this kind of thing online unless I have seen the product in person or I otherwise trust the brand. I'd suggest doing some shopping in real life, at brick and mortar stores first.

Thanks for the pointers guys. While the Saddleback stuff lasts longer, for me, their designs are rather clunky and their bags are pretty heavy. I want something sleeker and as such, was looking at some of the options i listed above. I'm still on the lookout. Being on a budget means some of the brick & mortar stores are completely out of the picture here.

I can't agree with you more pratyk. I don't want a heavy bag to lug around. I'm a university student without a place to stash anything on campus. On paper writing days I need to carry a bunch of journal articles, a couple books, my laptop, water bottle, coffee mug and all my writing utensils. Since I usually walk to campus, I don't want the bag adding much weight to that. Anything that fits my criteria at a B&M store is up in the $300 range. I have a Saddleback wallet that is built extremely well, but I find that it is simply to big and bulky. It is gorgeous, but I prefer to carry my card case around.

My hope is to find something that is elegant and can carry all that I listed above while lasting me the next four years or so. I'm planning on being in law school in the fall, so something somewhat professional without being an outright briefcase is on order. I expect that one of my many lawyer family members will give the time honoured law school graduation gift of a briefcase when the time comes.

                      So in short:
Decent leather, $100-200, handle attached to the top, should strap, and enough space to fit all listed above. I haven't been able to find something that meets all of my criteria anywhere but Etsy with the item coming from China.

PS I hope I'm not thread-jacking. I think we have very similar wants here.
