Green Sport Coat?

I need a sport coat and want one that will work with pretty much everything in the Fall & Winter.

I like wearing dark brown, black, charcoal, and a pair of navy blues are on tap. It seems like a dark green or greeny sport coat could be ideal. Thing is, I can't find one at any of the normal places.

Underneath, I'll mostly be wearing navy, camel, or rust v-necks.

Anyone have any ideas or input?

I would not recommend a green sportcoat. Instead, I'd look into one or more of the following:

Charcoal herringbone sportcoat
Brown herringbone sportcoat
Brown corduroy sportcoat
Navy blue blazer

Of those four, I'd give preference to navy>>>>charcoal>>>>>>>>>>brown herringbone>brown corduroy. It's possible, I suppose, that your work/lifestyle might make grey or brown the better choice, but if you're only going to own one sportscoat navy will be the most versatile color. Green is for sportscoat #10, if that.

Is this your first one? If so, it should be grey or navy. That will work with pretty much everything every season.

If you just need fall and winter, do you have a grey or navy sportcoat? If not, get one of those. If you do, then you can move on to the browns or charcoals or green. But I really don't think green will be that versatile. It won't go with navy (IMO, anyway). It might go with rust, but it might not, depending on the two shades.

Green only if:

- Very dark (olive)
- Very casual (tweed, moleskin, corduroy)

Don't wear it to a business dinner or wedding.

That actually is very helpful as that is what I meant by "green". Just haven't found anything like that jacket for purchase.

There is a Green Donegal Tweed jacket at Lands End. Last time I checked it was on sale too. You can also buy watching pants and make a suit if you wanted.

Did you win The Masters? That would be the only time I'd recommend wearing a green sport coat.

Suit Supply has a "green" sport coat in the Washington fit. Looks like it uses green with light and grey fibers, so it looks like it would be pretty versatile.
