    Which shoulder bag?

    https://www.frostriver.com/shop/carr...messenger-bag/

I am leaning field satchel. This is to replace my backpack, ie, carrying books, my laptop (13" macbook air), maybe one layer. Thoughts? I dig the messenger but it looks so huge.

If I had to choose among those three, I'd say the field satchel. The messenger bag looks enormous like you said, and the shell bag looks kind of purse-like, probably due to the shape and the weird drawing.

I looked around on that site and it looks like they have laptop bags, like this one: https://www.frostriver.com/shop/prot...e-macbook-pro/
    Too small for your books?

Fascinating. Great find. I will now have to reconsider. I had only looked under shoulder bags. I was unaware Frost River had joined the 21st century haha

Ugh. I'm tempted to have somewhat more space than the laptop bags allow. This is hard without being able to see them in person

Personally, I'd get the messenger. The satchel and shell bag both look a little too murse-y for me.

BTW, I don't know if you're interested but Jack Spade has a bunch of stuff on sale right now too:

Did you read the catalog description for the field satchel? "…the Field Satchel also makes a distinctive purse." Maaaaaaan!

No editing? Dang. I'm looking at the large field satchel and the simple brief. I liked the simple brief until comments were made how huge the messenger looks. They are the same dimensions apparently. I'm a small guy at 5'4" so now I wish I could see these things in person. The other thing holding me back about the field satchel is the vertical orientation. I am using an STM Alley for a 13" Macbook and I realize I'd rather have something bigger horizontally than long. It's weird for some reason because of the long vertical flap.

Edit: Something just clicked. How do we plan on fitting 13" Macbooks in a bag that only goes up to 11"?

                13" Macbook Air Dimensions
                Width: 12.8 inches (32.5 cm)
                Depth: 8.94 inches (22.7 cm)

Yeah I noticed the same Onikage. You don't I guess haha. I pulled the trigger on the messenger, we'll see it soon enough. I'll definitely post pictures. I saw a similar J Crew one in person (much lower quality) and it was not huge at all.

Pictures are a must. I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on the simple brief or the Filson Original Briefcase. Choices, choices.

I would highly recommend the following:

                        http://tannersalleyleather.com/satchelpage.htm

I have both the "mail bag" and the "sixties satchel". Charles has over 30 yrs experience and these are handmade by him of bridle leather. Beautiful and indestructible. I am a physician and have beat the hell outta my bag and it looks amazing.

Those are definitely some nice bags, however I'm not too keen on a 5-6 lb leather bag just yet. I thought about going with Saddleback bags, but decided to give some waxed canvas a try.

This is definitely something to be wary of. I have a bison leather portfolio bag from Duluth Pack that is truly one of the favorite things I own. It is heavy, however. Most days I only need a binder, my computer, and one textbook at a time and that is fine. It does get heavy with multiple books, a couple binders, and the computer. Canvas will be lighter and still durable.

The more I look at these bags and talk to others, the more I feel they do not look professional enough for a business environment. Ugh! Damn you leather briefs! I'm trying to stay with made in the USA as well. This just got difficult.
