    Casual brown shoes... HELP

Ok, so, I'm feeling overwhelmed trying to pick out a shoe that fits the following criteria:

Situation: To be worn casually, but on the dressier side (think jeans+blazer)

Like: Simple with a little something to make it different.

Dislike: Anything that draws a lot of attention to the shoes

    Some thoughts:

    - I'm not sure that I can pull off wingtips. I'm 31, but most people/females my age have indicated that they are too old-man ish and I shouldn't try them. I've also not dressed very stylishly in the past, so I feel these would be a big jump for me.

    - Material: No suede: While I think it looks nice, I'd like a shoe that I can wear year round and not worry about the weather as much.

    - Prefer lace-ups over loafers

    - I'm open to a rubber sole, but only if it's very thin and not clunky looking.

In general, I think I'm looking for something in a dark brown (the strands in walnut are too showy for me). If there's any broguing, it should be pretty subdued and minimal.

What would be a good dark brown, subtle shoe, that's a bit more interesting than a plain toe blucher?

Cheaper is better, but I'd like to keep them under $300 if possible. Open to waiting for sales / using coupons / etc.

How about brown leather chukka boots? If you don't want to worry about the weather, then don't go for anything with a leather sole. Go for a lug sole or something similar that's a little sturdier.

Also, if you're going to get nice shoes and want them to last for a while, you should cycle them with another pair... give them a day of rest in between wearings and stick shoe trees in them when you take them off.

I'd say these are definitely more dressy than casual but I'd rock them with jeans. Not a wingtip but the cap and medallion add interest.

I'll second the leather chukka recommendation. not to dressy, but nice casual. not showy, but boots are different enough (ATM, although they are starting to catch on)
