I was going through yesterday's 5 Favorites article on Dappered, as well as some of the archived ones, and it got me thinking about what my 5 Favorites would be. So I thought I'd share mine and open things up for other people to talk about theirs - as with the Dappered feature, your Favorites aren't limited to clothes but can be just about anything you want to share. Photos are a bonus but not required.
Here are mine, in no particular order:
Schnee's Hunter Boots

I love cold. I love snow. I love winter. I love every kind of winter activity you can imagine, from skiing to snowshoeing to just shoveling the driveway. But I don't love walking around with icicles for feet, or wearing cheesy "tech" snow boots. Instead of the usual Bean-style pac boots, I prefer to go with a pair made by Schnee's, a company based right in my hometown.
Chloe tie circa 1996

A tie like this isn't for everyone. The floral pattern is decidedly dainty and far from modern. Still, I love this tie. My mom bought it for me when she was in London in 1996 (I'm still not sure why, as I was all of 10 years old at the time). I'll wear it with a suit every now and then, but my favorite way to wear it is to balance it with something overtly masculine like a racer jacket or a flannel shirt with dark jeans and tough-guy boots.
Leatherman tool

Another sentimental favorite. My dad is a retired Marine and volunteer fireman whose wardrobe consists of patched-up flannel shirts and Carhartts. As a result I don't really stand to inherit much from him in terms of clothing. But he did give me his Leatherman tool, engraved with his name, which I can carry with me every day. Pictured next to the Benchmade knife given to me by my brother.
The French Chef with Julia Child

Being an adult means knowing basic things like how to cook, but simply knowing how to cook isn't the same as loving it. I found cooking stressful and slightly intimidating until I started to watch Julia Child's classic The French Chef. She's goofy, personable, highly intelligent, unglamorous, and mostly unscripted - in other words, the polar opposite of today's TV personalities. She made a name for herself showing disgruntled '60s housewives how to love cooking again, but she is just as relevant today.
Stormy Kromer hat

This is another piece of winter apparel that I love. Unlike so many cheap acrylic winter hats, this wool and cotton one has a bit of turn-of-the-century charm as well as a brim to keep the sun out of my eyes and a flap to protect my ears from freezing wind.
