I really like this coat but its two months rent. Does anyone know of a similar looking one in a cheaper price range? I'm guessing that they rarely do sales at burberry.....
Haha MagM, doesnt it?!! I do see it as at least a 3 year investment and I think it is a long lasting style. So maybe i can go on Ramen for a few weeks and then decide..... The jcrew one is tempting though im not really a fan of all the flap pockets. Plus i am pretty skinny (5'10' 140-145lbs) so i think the burberry one would be a form fitting choice.
The Burberry is very very nice indeed. Sometimes those prices aren't just inflated. Sometimes it's really quality design and construction. It's a sign of my advanced addiction that I saw the Burberry and the price and thought "Wow, that's really not too bad"
This guy is up on J Crew Factory for $168 - http://bit.ly/oiqzOF - pretty simple with some similar design cues. And that price either makes it a steal or means its total crap. Factory's upped it's quality and design game lately, though, and for under $200, what do you have to lose? (wait for a 30% off sale and it drops to $120)
I picked up a Burberry rain coat at Nordstrom Rack for over 50% off once, but that's a total crap-shoot. And you're stuck waiting for the end of the season combined with a "hope it shows up" and a "in my size, please"—a tough roll, for sure.
Get the J Crew Factory one posted by Christian above. It looks exactly the same, and then spend 50$ at a good tailor. It'll fit better than any off the rack Burberry coat.
If you're especially pedantic, get the tailor to add a flannel behind the collar, and go to a Burberry store to see the fit, and have him mimic that.
I honestly don't see much of a difference between the two - it's amazing what good photography can do...
EDIT: Just noticed - Burberry doesn't carry it in your size (unless you're a 5-10" 140 pound guy with a 46" chest...). I don't think they even make them smaller than 44...
Christian, that's a great match! Totally agree with YH, get the J Crew Factory and spend some cash to tailor it in. You could even replace the buttons if you want.
I waited until December last year and got an almost identical one (possibly last year's version of this same coat) for about half the price. This was at Bloomingdale's.
Chet, I was at bloomingdales after thanksgiving and saw a coat I really liked but couldnt pull the trigger due to price. Now i am left to freeze until next thanksgiving it seems. ITs only october and already hitting 40, so november came early. time to layer i guess!
