Do you like to try floral shirts in the summer?

What is everyone's opinion on how to dress for summer?

I really like floral shirts, whether they are street style or slightly more formal.

Floral shirts can provide a great mix and match.

The bright colors will also make you feel happy in the summer.

I love floral shirts but I think they require being judicious about their use. I think they're appropriate when on vacation or attending a summer pool party. Uses outside any of those contexts look immature and flamboyant in all the wrong ways.

There are different types of floral shirts. I'm not big on the traditional short sleeve type. They tend to be too baggy and I don't like how they look on me. On the other hand John Henric and Grand Frank both make some really nice looking long sleeve fitted shirts. I have a number of them from both companies and I always get a ton of compliments on them.

A couple of examples of some that I have. I typically wear these with dark wash jeans and nice shoes and boots in the fall/winter or medium wash jeans and white minimal sneakers in the spring/summer.

Nah fam, I'd resist. I'm assuming you're younger so if that works for you, then go for it. I'd just advise that the superior way to stand out is by prioritizing fit and texture. Less is more!

Younger? I'm 57 years old. I do happen to be in very good shape which helps I suppose. I can tell you that I always get compliments on these shirts when I wear them. Also, I'm not looking to stand out. I just wear what I like.

It's not a style I like. To me it's become very younger "bro" around DC to wear them with short shorts ... and that's not a look I particularly like. The other spectrum is the oversized version my dad wears. Neither is up my alley. For me, I cannot find the right approach outside of vacation that I would wear one and since limited use I haven't purchased any.

I like them OK but it is a high degree of difficulty. Done right they can look good but it's easy to get it wrong and when the look goes wrong it can go really wrong. Woven short sleeve button ups in general...I like them in theory - the outfits that sell them make them look great in lookbooks - but find in practice they're kind of hard to pull off. Like, I'm 50, so I'm middle aged, but in a good fitting polo or t shirt I feel like I look less middle aged (I still weigh roughly what I did in High School) whereas a camp collar button up short sleeved shirt - patterned or not. - a lot of those make me look reallymiddle aged. The fit has to be spot on or else.

On a lark I took a picture of myself wearing one of those shirts to someone doing a summer outfit critique (along with a couple of other photos). He actually put me in his video and was very complimentary of how I looked.

I have a few short sleeve versions that I wear with shorts or cotton/linen pants. I agree with the degree of difficulty and some times they don’t work and I scrap the idea. I also find that tucking them in some times makes a huge difference in how the look comes across.

How about Eton’s floral shirts? Some are fairly wild, but others are quite conservative.

I am a big fan of floral shirts both long and short sleeve probably one of my favorite things to wear besides flannel shirts. I wear both though more short selves because I enjoy wearing bright colors during the summer, think pink, bright red, orange, ec, and its summer so celebrate. Long sleeves I go small print easier to match and blend well with sports jackets. Two thing I have learned is one most people will complement and some will make fun of you but ignore them they are probably not going to talk to you ever again. Second, wear basic color pants, khaki, white, blue makes it more versatile. I also start cheap when I buy a new style to see if I like it. Not much harm done if you buy a 10 dollar Old Navy shirt and don't like it.

I love floral prints, but I keep them understated. This one is my current favorite:

Looks good under a linen blazer, too. This blazer is on its way to the tailor, but will be perfect once it's done.
