    Blackwatch on a budget

    Hey guys,

I have been recently over taken by an intense desire for some blackwatch plaid in my life. Perhaps all this menswear tumbl-ing has affected my sensibilities. In any case, specifically, a blackwatch plaid shirt at reasonable cost.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks!

    Something like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pendleton-mens-long-sleeve-shirt-100-wool-Size-M-Authentic-black-watch-tartan-/290803133177?pt=US_CSA_MC_Shirts&hash=item43b537aa f9

Last winter a lot of people on the threads bought this from LEC: http://bowtiesandboatshoes.com/?p=3509. A good number, myself included, returned it because the collars were floppy (not button-down) and it fit a bit too loosely. Maybe they'll run something in a blackwatch pattern again soon.

If this is the sportcoat I saw in the store, it isn't as dark as pictured:

      It's got personality, for sure.

Kind of expensive, but imo it's a versatile shirt with a lot of possible applications. Plus, the fact that it's at Macy's should mean you can eventually get it for ~$50, though I don't know your budget.

I'd also check out Uniqlo. I have a green and white tartan shirt from them that I like, and that plus the 150 flannels they have makes me think at least one's gotta be blackwatch!

I feel your pain. I NEED a blackwatch plaid blazer. Something like this, but in a 38-39 S:

Yeah, I've been wanting one ever since I saw one on a character in Bored To Death (RIP) a couple years ago, but after seeing how uncommon and expensive they tended to be, gave up for the time being. I do have a more-or-less blackwatch tartan shirt from LEC that I got for like $14 last year, so there is that! I haven't worn it as much as I'd like to, but that's only because it's more of a wintery sort of shirt.

The Izod Blackwatch that Alan posted is pretty sweet. I would have bought it if it came in a size 36. Unfortunately the sales lady cornered me while looking at it, and convinced me to prove to her that a 38 wouldn't fit right. 'Well, it looks fine on you if you just keep your arms straight down to your side and don't move."

Also, Target has a selection of inexpensive blackwatch accessories. My local target had a little section on a table set up that had a Totes telescoping umbrella, a messenger bag, and ties:

Blackwatch on a budget = thrifted blackwatch wool scarves. I've bought a few myself.

I didn't see the Izod jacket in the store anymore when I was there on my lunch break yesterday. It looks like its cheaper online now, anyway. Again, its not NEARLY as dark as the online pics would suggest. And its 100% wool, IIRC.

With ebay and etsy searches, look for tartan or green plaid.

I just picked this up off etsy. Talked her down to $40, which is still a bit much, but I've been looking for one for a while.

If it's too long, one of you may be in luck.

I think it was the only one she had. Persistence pays off. Just keep searching, and you'll find something.
