Well, guys...seems like someone posts it every year, and this year it's me. I'm in the market for the perfect chunky shawl cardigan - thick, in a versatile color (preferably navy, but I'll go for grey or olive too), no toggles or crazy buttons, and under $200. Have you seen such a thing? I've found a few through googling that look great, but are from past seasons and are not in stock anymore (for example, http://mistercrew.com/blog/2010/04/1...llar-cardigan/ and http://pursuitist.com/mens-style/j-c...llar-cardigan/ ).

By the way, I'm considering this one, but not sure how I feel about the pattern - definitely not the solid versatile color I had in mind: http://www.jcrew.com/browse/single_p...&bmUID=jGwNqGa

If you ever feel like saving up a fortune and then spending it on a cardigan, this one's in the permanent collection at Tom Ford:

Doesn't help you now, but I got this one from JCrew in navy and grey. I really like them.

@luke, not crazy about the leather buttons, but that CT one is otherwise pretty nice! (and could always get buttons replaced by the tailor.) definitely going to the short list...
@lib that sweater is awesome. i've been looking in thrift stores but to no avail...
@johnny yup - i love that one, and wish it were still in stock! i'm considering this one, which is similar - http://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/s...5063/95063.jsp - but a little worried about the itch factor. gonna head to stores this weekend to see if i can try it on in person.

<a>This one</a> from Rugby's on sale. Looks gorgeous and it's made from Shetland wool. It's already on sale and the code INSIDERFALL takes it down to $56 shipped.

Comes in navy and grey, no weird details or buttons. Does have a small logo, but could easily be colored in with a sharpie.

@BJ - if it's the one I'm thinking of, I fell in love with it too - until I saw the elbow patches. Why does Rugby consistently insist on ruining beautiful sweaters and shirts with weird, badly placed elbow patches?
@Lance - that one is PERFECT, and pretty much exactly the aesthetic I'm looking for. Just not sure I'm willing to sharpie the logo (the buttons also say "American Eagle" on them, unfortunately).

Here's another option I've come across - but it's got those damn elbow patches, too!
