Stolen Riches - Colorful shoelaces

I have recently taken notice of guys using their shoe laces to add a little pop of color to their dress/casual outfit. My usual aesthetic is simple and clean with subtle use of color. So this use of colorful laces really appeals to me. Anyone out there do this? Is this one of those things that looks good on models in photo shoots and guys like Nick Wooster, but would look ridiculous on an average guy? I don't want to look like I'm over thinking my outfits and trying too hard to be stylish.

If you do partake in this, what are some of your guidelines in matching or complementing colors. I imagine the rules are similar to pocket squares, or maybe not? I found this site that offers laces just for this, but not sure I can justify the price. Their "Style in a Box" is a neat idea. Any resources out there for quality laces at a reasonable price?

They're cotton, though, so they're probably better for casual shoes. They appear to be too short for boots.

@Eyerman: LOL not a problem. I'm thinking of picking up some of the 1901's for myself. Maybe they'll go on the Christmas wish list.

Alan, Nice find on the 1901's. I also would worry that they appear more casual, but may try them out anyways. The price doesn't create too big of a risk.


Looking around on Stolen Riches site there is a boutique store just down the street from me that carries them. I may have to stop in and see if they warrant the price tag.

@JBG: Those laces look like waxed cotton to me, but I wouldn't feel guilty slapping plain-ol cotton laces on some AE Neumoks (as long as they aren't flat).

I stopped by Nordstrom on my lunch break. They were out of the multi-pack, but they offered to build me one for the same price using the various colored laces they have in stock. they said their B&M store ran out really quickly. So anyways, I grabbed them. It might also be worth mentioning that they carry both 30in and 33in in-store, and they let me go with the 33in laces for the same price. They also rang them up individually discounted so I can always return whichever ones I don't want and still maintain the discount on the ones I'll keep.


As for how they look, they're not waxed, but they're pretty nice.

The knottery's laces look identical to the 1901's. Much greater color selection, but 20% more expensive.
