Le Shoe De Crumble (Pic Heavy)

So awhile back I found some new old stock UK shoes that were never worn before while I was thrifting. Great deal I thought!

Tried them on today for the first time...this was the result:

Chunks left over on the sidewalk:

bits and pieces of man made sole in my car:

    Very interesting experience

Damn.. That sucks. It almost seems as if the soles were made of sand

How long did you have them on before they disintegrated?

Good thing they fell apart before you got where you were going (at least, I sure hope that's what happened).

@Pratyk: That's what it felt like!

@Anon: I wore them for two hours before the began disintegrating. I actually drove back home during lunch break from work to change shoes.

@Focuspants: That was my reaction as well! Surprising since it comes from a respectable brand

Apparently ECCO shoes used to do this on a regular basis as the polyurethane outsole hydrolyzed. Probably a manufacturing process, since corrected, plus the long time spent on a shelf led to this disaster.

Unless you stepped in some acid or something.

Too bad about the shoes, but really interesting pics.

Reminds me of old tires with rubber rot - chunks start falling out.

My jaw dropped too seeing these pics!

@Acoustic, that was my bad. I neglected to tell you about the strategically placed puddles of acid I placed between your home and work...
