    Rugged pants?

    Hi all,

Any recs on rugged pants that fit well? Not going for slim fit - just something a bit more stylish than your average pair of oversized cargo pants. Would like to use them for day hikes and other fairly casual outdoor activities.

Brands or fabrics to look out for would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Yeah, denim does all that for me. I've gotten REI-type active pants made with synthetic fabrics and didn't really care for them. Cargo pockets are fine for utility pants, but I tend to go for more slim fitting pants in general these days.

@Hasenkpfe, I take it you haven't heard the old adage "cotton kills". See: http://sectionhiker.com/why-does-cotton-kill/. Long story short, it seems many recommend against hiking in jeans, as denim is heavy, restricts movement, gets wet easily and dries slowly, and is a very poor insulator when wet.

@Nicholas, good to know... What was it about the synthetic fiber pants that you didn't like?

@cpvisitor - I've been really happy with these. They hold up well to the light day hiking/snowshoeing activities I find myself in a few times a month.
