Steal the Style: Recreating this GORGEOUS Omega Seamaster

Hey team. So there was a thread on styleforum and watchuseek recently (http://www.styleforum.net/t/312568/h...ther-band/0_50) about recreating this b-e-a-u-tiful omega seamaster, seen here. Personally, this is the most beautiful watch I have ever laid eyes on. Someday I will have it. Until then, a replica.

Here is the watch itself. It comes with a steel bracelet OEM:

Does anyone have some recs on a good BASE model watch to start from? There are a number in the styleforum thread, but none really NAIL it (ie close size, shape, etc). I am not expecting to replicate a $4000 watch for $300 perfectly, but I think we can do better than the folks over at SF:

Forgive me if this sounds dense, but I am not quite sure you want to do. Do you want us to recommend a movement and parts so you can build your own Frakenwatch to resemble that Omega?

Or are you asking for recommendations that are a little different than what the SF posters provided?

I think he wants a watch and band that looks as similar as possible to the real seamaster.

I wish I had 4k i could blow on a watch. I'd never take that thing off.

I think he wants to do something like this:

eg. This one has a blue face(doesn't really look similar but an example here)

        http://www.parniswatch.net/index.php?gOo=goods_details.dwt&goodsid=1036

and then find that strap somewhere.

@ Margotron, I like the SEIKO recreation. Nice!

Not trying to thread-jack but can someone point in the right direction of these clasp leather straps. Thanks in advance.

They're called deployant clasps, and you'll see a number of places also using the term deployment clasp.

If you search for that on watchuseek, you'll find tons of info about the different suppliers.

If I was going to go the seiko route I would think this would be a closer match to the seamaster: http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-Casual-Stainless-Steel-SGEG03/dp/B008PW93YY/ref=sr_1_1?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1347722696&sr=1-1&keywords=SGEG03

For the watch band for the cost I wouldnt mind trying one of these: http://internationalwatchman.com/leather/CHRONOCROCCALFWHTST.html

Dont know anything about clasps though it seems like a very nice touch to the band!

Yeah @ Mitchell - that looks better. But the one the guy on Styleforum ended up with is an automatic, not a quartz, which adds some "mental" appeal.

Jordan - me too. It is so striking.

Mitchell - great find, I am impressed. I might pull the trigger on that one. I am not too bothered by quartz in this situation. I like the mental appeal that JT references, but man, that look is something else. I need it.

Mike - you have a favorite deployment clasp supplier? I am definitely going that route with this project.

margotron - when I was searching for a deployant strap

I was going to go with this supplier. I decided against

it because I have smaller wrists so the deployant would

not have sat center of my wrist.

I did talk to the seller - his name is Bob and he was a

pleasure to talk with and gave me pretty good info.

as for strap, I have a brown hirsch strap but here is a

golden brown which matches closer in color to what you

                    are looking for:

watch - I haven't found anything close for you, I have

a seagull m177s that also comes in a black face:

Ok, so the first piece of my frankenstein has arrived:

Pretty happy. For anyone curious, it is the SGEG03 that mitchell recommended.

I have already ordered a Duke Hirsch strap and the mywatchmaker polished double clasp.

Ok, so I am not nearly the photographer that the owner of the Omega happens to be. However, here is my current take:

                            ===========================

However, I am considering using a different face by Orient, seen here (and more than double the cost sadly):

Wow, very impressive! Thanks for sharing, it looks wonderful! Mind sharing the model of that Orient as well?

EDIT: I'm also curious about how one goes about removing the stock clasp and attaching the deployant clasp. Is that a difficult process?
