    Dress watch suggestions

    Lads,

I'm looking to update my watch collection with a multipurpose dress watch. I've shied away from the metal banded variety in the past because they're usually grossly over-sized for my wrist and look like a bangle. I'm working on a budget that's flexible but what I need is one that's similarly sized to the Timex weekender, metal band, sleek, and reasonably priced. I'm flexible on watch face color. Suggestions?

    Good ol' Seiko 5 maybe?

If you want to step up in both price and quality might I suggest the Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic with either the white or black face on a metal band.

5 bills is a bit of a step up. I do like the style though.

@Jessy, that's a great starting point for a search. I like the size and it appears to have a matte like band, which I also like. How does Seiko stack up quality wise, or does the price point tell me that? I've seen some Skagen watches at their outlet store that might fit the bill.

Seiko 5 watches are good quality for the money. The bracelets are folded affairs and not especially nice, but you can dress the watches themselves up pretty easily with a nice leather strap.

Depending on what you're looking to spend, you might take a look at Seiko 5, Orient, Tissot, Bulova, Citizen, Wenger, Victorinox. As far as versatility goes, keep in mind that simplicity, small size, black leather, and light-colored dials all lean dressy and more complicated design, larger size, dark dials, and brown leather or a steel bracelet are all slightly more casual. A simple, silver- or black-dialed watch with a brown leather strap will probably be the most versatile dress watch combo.

One watch I've been lusting after recently is the Uhren von Uhr Datejust homage. It's a German company that utilizes Swiss movements. Without the VAT, the 221, 222, 223, and 224 all come out around $200USD. I like the fluted bezel version but I suspect most other people would prefer the polished bezel.

All great suggestions. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some online shopping to do. Thanks, all!
