College budget looking for cheap basics

    Hey y'all,

Just wondering where everyone gets there mainstay of normal apparel like v-necks, tshirts, and possibly sweaters. Looking at jackthreads.com and there seems to be a lot of cheap nice shirts, etc. Oh btw I'm stuck in Mississippi so no H&M. Already looked

For basics, I'd recommend Lands End (& Canvas) and Target. Even JCrew Factory for a few items like shirts, sweaters and accessories.

Find the outlets. Even if you have to drive, places like Banana Republic Factory Store and Gap Outlet can score you big deals. Set a budget for the day with a list of things you need (want!) and make it happen.

I get a lot from Lands End personally.

Hmm... I'd say no to BR Factory or Gap Outlet, I've always found things there to be of pretty meh quality and the prices are pretty unreasonable IMO (compared to BR sales). This is because the products there are not destined for mainline distribution. JCrew Factory I'm good with though. LE/LEC also good (on steep discounts. For example, I got 3 OCBD last winter for 9.99 each last winter)

i don't hear it mentioned much here, but for basics like v-necks, t's, boxer briefs, i highly recommend american apparel. The tri-blend v-necks and 50/50 t's are the most comfortable and most flattering fits i have found. I am 6'5 and about 200. Most budget t's are cut too wide and short for me so maybe this is a factor but i highly recommend.

For plain colored v-neck t-shirts I mainly stick with either Target or Old Navy. Both usually have some good sales on them so if you keep your eye out you can stock up.

I second Land's End/Canvas and ON/Gap/BR. All these have tons of sales, and you can find local places to return, Sears in the case of Land's End. You've got to find your fit at every store, and these are one's you can go back to. Target's good, too.

I really like Land's End and LL bean for Ts and Undershirts (Sight preference for Bean on Ts, Only Lands End does Undershirts). I've had surprisingly good sweater luck at Target, and on clearance they can be dirt cheap.

I don't know if they have Nordstrom in Mississippi, but I picked up some pretty nice v-necks 2 for $30. They seem to be of nice quality and some of them were even made in the USA. Also, I know you're a student so if you're local to a J. Crew, their basic stuff is fairly reasonably priced and you can get 15% off with your student ID.

I'm not sure how to link here, but this is the Nordstrom v-neck.

                      Some essentials:

Pick up a pair of dark jeans Levi 505/514/511 which ever fit your build. (easy to find <~$30)

Target has great simple vnecks that look good in jeans, also H&M has plenty for ~$5.95.

Pick up a pair of Clark Desert boots in Beeswax or another brown

Socks you can find a nice argyle or strip pair at TJ Maxx or Target has some (Target ones are meh, TJ Maxx has Cole Hann ones from time to time.)

Watch, go to Target or Amazon and pick up a Timex Weekender.

There you go a nice college outfit.

                          1. Thanks to whoever took that spam out.

                          2. No Nordstrom anywhere close TO the state of Mississippi. Sad I know. But I'm heading back to Birmingham this weekend for Labor day so I'll definitely have to do some outlet shopping. @LosRockets happy to know that I'm not the only one to think that about BR factory. Appreciate the wardrobe @TravisB

I highly recommend the JCrew Factory Outlets for great basics a an affordable price.. If you have access to one, here's a 20% coupon for purchases over $125: http://ebm.e.jcrew.com/c/tag/hBQPnTCBgTeL6B8ttvjMvvil9KX/doc.html?t_params=I_SOURCE%3D0%26EMAIL%3D

As mentioned several times, Target is also good and they have some nice pieces for Fall that have recently arrived at their stores.

For great basic tshirts, I like Everlane. If you are not a member, here's my invite code: https://www.everlane.com/i/0acblx
