What's the purpose of that little button on sleeves?

You know the one - the little button on the slit just north of the cuff? It's probably common knowledge for everyone else, but not me. Thanks.

hmmm...i always thought it was there to help keep the (buttoned) cuff straight. i noticed that if you don't button the smaller button, the whole can flare out, pulling the buttoning ends of the cuff towards your forearm. you end up showing skin, and the cuff doesn't sit properly on the wrist. just my theory.

You need more opening to roll up the sleeves. Wee button minds the gap.

Its called a gaunlet button, and its main purpose as videorecipes theory states(correct by the way)is to keep the shape of your shirts arms' silhouette. Have you seen those button ups that dont have it, but sill have that air fold, its looks pretty bad IMO. So the gauntlet keeps everything lined up properly...
