I hardly ever 'need' a suit. When I'm in front of customers (tech sales), I'm in a blazer and slacks. Last weekend, I went to a fundraiser with my wife and due to her looking pretty "fancy" I ended up wearing a suit. It was a solid navy Bonobos Foundation suit that I purchased probably 4-5 years ago. It worked well though I wouldn't have minded having something different. *I switched to the suit the day of, so didn't have time to buy something even if I wanted to.
Long way of getting to thoughts on SuitSupply vs Spier vs Bonobos? In theory, Bonobos wouldn't seem to fit in with the other two, but they do enough sales where you might be able to get something for a decent price. They don't make the Foundation suits anymore, and I'm not really sure what replaced them. I definitely don't think a Jetsetter suit for $750 is worth it. One plus for Bonobos is that you can order as separate meaning you aren't stuck with the standard 6 inch drop from jacket to pants. I need a 40R jacket but no bigger than a 32 inch waist. It looks like you can do the same thing on SuitSupply starting in the $569+ range. Doesn't appear to be that way with Spier. I've never tried anything from them. Their prices seem good in theory, but it's also always better to be able to see something in person.
What do the other people who rarely need a suit do? If I'm wearing one, I want to look good, but I also realize that spending whatever $$ on a suit is money that I can't spend on something else (that I might wear more often).
