      Thanks for the input everyone.

So, I've got four pairs on the way, one pair each of:

And will probably stop by REI for a look at some of the Danners and other shoes recommended by you all.

I'm hoping the Jftizpatrick shoes work out, because I do like to support his brand. And his assistant or partner (not sure which), Che was very helpful over the phone.

On the other hand, I've always wanted a Wolverine 1000 Mile boot, just because I like the name.

But one of them should. And I will repress my cheapness and eat the expedited shipping costs as well as shipping back for the ones that don't work--without complaining. And even pay that stupid $25 restocking charge at AE. Or did I just complain?

      Thanks again.
WHY ARE THE GUYS IN SUITS HERE? HAS SOMETHING GONE WRONG?

I like the look of the AE Alpine Chukka boots.

While it is hard to discern exact colors from a photo online they look similar in color to my AE Higgins Mill which I love.

What about Dr Marten? For a quick trip that requires condor out of the box and wet weather, I’m satisfied with most of my pairs that I’ve had for years.
Not quite as Dappered, but defensively stylish and weatherproof.
          Just a thought

I live in SF and do a ton of walking (lately around poop on the street..but that's another story) and need something that can handle rain but still look decent. The Jack Erwin Reade boots have been amazing for me:

How do they fit? I’ve been interested in those, but Jack Erwin dress shoes usually run too narrow in the toes for me.

Ah, this is a great point. I bought them at Bloomingdale's and they only had size 11.5. Typically, I wear a size 11 - but noticed the same thing you mentioned and ended up buying them at a half size up. Definitely worth trying to make sure you'd feel the same. But I wear a wider shoe for working out (reebok Nanos) for this same reason. Hope that helps!

I personally don't have a pair, but I have a few coworkers that have the AE Higgins Mill boots and they rave about how comfortable they are. Plus they look really good. I believe they still make a weatherproof version too.

Purchased the Danner Vertigo 917 (Dark Grey) and have been pleasantly surprised.

I echo the Danner boot recommendations. I wish I had checked these out more thoroughly before recently purchasing a pair of Sorels, because they have a ton of options that look fantastic.
