  • New Job - Upgrading Wardrobe

I have been away from Dappered for a while...but I got a new job as an assistant principal and I am looking to make a few upgrades to my wardrobe, shifting to a bit more of a shirt and tie look. I have been searching for years for a plain black pair of shoes. I checked these out at Nordstrom today but felt the toe may be a bit too "boxy." I am digging the boots that were on the front page today. Also interested in these for something slightly more casual.

I am really struggling with pants. I have always worn the Jcrew Broken in Chinos, but that won't be quite dressy enough. I snagged a pair of the Ludlow 4 season wool pants on super sale today, I am interested in a few more pairs of wool pants or a dressier option than the chinos I used to wear. I picked up a 3/99 deal from Charles Tyrwhitt, going to make sure sizing is right before ordering any more from them.

TLDR...New job = new wardrobe, need black shoes/casualish brown shoes, dress pants...

    Thoughts?

I don't think you NEED black shoes if you don't want them. But if you do, I think the shoes you linked to are good looking in both brown and black--but don't forget that the Nordstrom summer sale is coming up soon. Maybe they will get reduced.

Also, don't overlook Nordstrom Rack. They have a number of shoes in that price range that look similar, including some Allen Edmonds for $160:

And Allen Edmonds has a great sale on the Whitney cap toe model right now, if you like that--only $127, marked down from $425!

    https://www.allenedmonds.com/outlet/...lucher%2FDerby

They have some other models on sale right now in that price range as well.

And don't forget they have 15% off your first purchase if you sign up for the mailing list.
WHY ARE THE GUYS IN SUITS HERE? HAS SOMETHING GONE WRONG?

The general shape of those shoes is quite nice.

Awesome, I picked up the Whitney plain toe. Now onto pants...thanks for your suggestions!

They aren’t cheap, but the wool dress pants from the tie bar are probably the best dress pants I’ve bought in the past few years. $75 a pair and they are never on sale but they are far better quality than my j crew and BR wool dress pants I’ve purchased. They also have a tint bit of stretch added in for extra comfort.

Oh yes--forgot about the plain toe. And I have some right here that I purchase for my son. Glad you like them. I'm not a big fan of the plain toe--but I guess a lot of people like them. My son and you, for example.

That isn't a bad price for wool trousers. I quite like these on Amazon (I have five pairs), and they are about the same price.

Never mind--they are mostly sold out.

Yeah, the reason I go with plain toe is that schools tend to be very conservative when it comes to dress. Having nice shoes is already something that draws attention, wearing shoes with a wingtip or brouging ends up screaming out.

Lands End year rounders are a decent wool trouser that wont break the bank and wear well.

That's interesting - I would never have guessed that about the quality. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion, 40% off right now also. I really like the darker brown shade, I will have to keep an eye out. Thanks!

These are on the list for sure, it's too bad they never go on sale! Great option for the basics though.
                        Thanks!

Bonobos going 30% off everything tomorrow according to the main page.

That puts these at under $65:

                          https://bonobos.com/products/stretch...lor=longshadow

I don't own any Bonobos, but people who do seem to like them.

I'm a big fan of Bonobos, but I always wait for the sales. I'm planning on picking up 1 or 2 of their stretch wool suits tomorrow or another unconstructed blazer (these are mint). Good quality stuff, lots of sizing options, good customer service (+ free ship/returns).

Jomers has some really nice wool pants for $64. You usually have to jump on them when they release because they sell out quick, but there are still a ton of options and lots of sizes. The only con is that you will have to have them tailored since they all come in the same length.

It brings them down under 50 with the extra 30% off...good deal!
