At glance some might assume "white guy with a cap, hes american". It helps that we are on some "fan" pages of the resort so we get to interact with them more than just seeing people at the buffet or in their loungers.

Of course I might need to clarify...if you specifically mean a cap from an actual baseball team, thats pretty american. If you mean the baseball style cap, thats pretty universal.
I was specifically referring to team baseball caps.

that came to me as I was finishing my post. I would agree there. Baseball is americas past time. But a solid color, brand logo, or football club will blend right in.

TBH I think a not-insignificant part of why people these days view traditional hats as dorky or douchey is because a lot of the guys who wear them aren't wearing ones that are a flattering size/shape/fit for their face and head.

Fully agree. Hats also vibe as very old school so a young guy looks like a hipster and an older guy just looks traditional. I will wear tons of hats in another 15 years or so

I don't care about that myself.

That said, I've seen Namibian people wearing baseball hats in Namibia a little. And Chinese people wearing them in China - a lot. Though that was some decades ago, perhaps things have changed.

And click on images for these. Not many hats searching for "filipinos" but baseball hats are the most common style:

I have a full head of hair, so I’m not worried about my head getting burned in the first five minutes. If I were to get a hat, I likely would not wear it at home regardless, so I’m not concerned about the reuse rate. At the same, I don’t want to be “that guy” and fail in an attempt to get a non baseball style hat. With that said, is something like this stupid? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G5TQH1R...ing=UTF8&psc=1 Is that a “that guy” hat?

Other suggestions for similar or non-similar hats? I’m open to all styles that Dappered might approve of. Also open to the idea that I don’t need a hat and trying to find one being stupid.

I leave in a week, so any options would need to be able arrive by Tuesday. This Charlie Fedora kind of caught my eye - https://www.tilley.com/us_en/men/sho...h-leisure.html - but out of stock.

If I were you I will buy it in Mexico, they are a over.

That one from amazon looks proper and a good way to test the water.

I want to wear a hat (fedora, panama, what not) daily but driving makes it impractical and my hair and a hat won't get along.

I think the one from Amazon looks pretty nice. I have one from Dorfman Pacific that's sort of between a straw fedora and a cowboy hat (essentially a fedora with a somewhat wider brim) I wear at the beach sometimes. Speaking of which, a straw cowboy hat could be another option to consider. They can be had really cheap too. Mine was inexpensive and provides good sun protection. Another option is a bucket hat - those are pretty standard for the beach and are cheap unless you get a designer branded one. They can also be crammed into a suitcase without any damage. They make "crushable" straw but I'm not sure even the crushable stuff is suitcase-able. Maybe so, I've never had a crushable one, but I have my doubts they're quite capable of surviving hours smashed tightly in a suitcase without some distortion setting in.

I would buy one when you get down there. If you like the way it looks on you, who cares what the locals or other tourists think about it. You're on vacation to have fun. I wouldn't wear a sombrero, however.

If you want to blend in and look like an actual surfer, get one of these:

You’ll probably be able to find one cheap at your destination...

Why not just keep it simple and casual and go with a Kangol Bucket style. The Lahinch in beige is nice and says, "I'm not trying to anything but chill".

Great call on the lifeguard hat. Somehow didn’t run across that style in my earlier googling, but I recognized it immediately. It’s probably the right mix of function and fun/whimsy. It will probably look more appropriate to wear in swim trunks versus the earlier hat I posted. Unfortunately I leave on Wednesday, so I don’t have time to wait for the one you linked. Annoying because that’s a great ‘“I don’t care if it makes it home price.” I did end up finding a Goodfellows one at my local Target. Only $18, but the only one they had left is probably a size too big. I still bought it though as I can make it work. I was showing my wife, and mentioned I saw a better one on Amazon for $40 but wasn’t positive on the size. Somehow I forgot about Zappos, and she mentioned that she gets free 1 business day shipping. Found the hat on there, ordered both sizes, and they are guaranteed to get to me by Tuesday. If I like the Zappos hats, I’ll pick the right size, return the other and the Target one. If I don’t like the Zappos, I’ll deal with the too big Target one. Either way I should be good.
