They're a lot cooler than I initially expected! They're mildly gimmicky, and quite frankly I am kind of surprised that side-gusset faux oxfords haven't had their turn in the #menswear rotation of random whimsies (Gurkha trousers, Negroni tweed, aperol spritz, Fox flannel, white socks with tailored clothes, etc.), but now that I've had them for a while, I'm liking them for a lot more than the novelty factor. I travel about 50% of the time for work, and really like that with these, I don't have to worry about breaking a lace or stopping while walking through an unfamiliar area to tie my shoes. From a standing position, no one can even tell that they're any different from anyone else's shoes. They also feel like proper oxfords when I walk/run, as opposed to loafers, which for me can oftentimes feel kind of clumsy.

As for brand, Cleverley makes by far the sexiest version of these things, in their little RTW line. I'm kind of embarrassed to say that I got these after seeing Henry Cavill rocking the pair they bought for him for Man from UNCLE... but since I have neither his looks nor his checking account, mine are from Fugashin Saigon. Carlos Santos did a pair once maybe 2 years ago, available through Skoaktiebolaget, but that seems to have been discontinued.
